John Timothy Peake

John Timothy Peake (Tim) died peacefully on Saturday, October 22, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. Devoted partner to Joanne and proud father of Rachel (Dan) and Sharon (Anna); father figure to Joanne’s children Jackie (Brent), Robbie and Kelly (Clint); besotted grandfather to Anwen, William and Margot, as well as Corie (Mark), Daryl (Trevor), Riley, Jenna and Adam; and great-grandfather to Rhett, Paisley, Ellie, and Emberly. Tim will be remembered by his sisters Catherine and Maggie and their families and was predeceased by his sister Frances and his parents Clifford and Lucy.

Born on April 19,1948 in Leeds, England, Tim’s reverend dad and highly practical mother made him the rare creature that he was, both deeply intellectual and an active and physically capable sports and craftsman. Tim and his first wife Alison moved to Canada in 1969 after finishing college in Wales, seeking an adventure and settling in Hodgeville, Saskatchewan. In Saskatchewan Tim found where he belonged and made the life he wanted, subsequently living in Herbert, Thomson Lake, and finally Swift Current.

Tim started his career as an English and History teacher at Hodgeville High School, becoming principal by age 27. After obtaining his Bachelors of Education and of Arts from the University of Regina and his Master’s degree from the University of Oregon, he became the Director of Education for the Herbert School Division, retiring in 2000. He met Joanne while working at the division office and they were together thirty years.

Tim was a renaissance man, teaching himself to do anything that he developed an interest in, and do it well. Building became a passion, including plumbing, electrical, brick and stone masonry and fine woodworking, all skills which were used when he and Joanne built their beautiful home in Thomson Lake. Tim was an early adopter of technology, an accomplished cook, and in his retirement became dedicated to his family ancestry. Tim was also an active community member – belonging to several clubs and numerous boards, he believed in taking part and making change. 

Of course, Tim’s greatest passion was golf. He loved everything about it, perhaps the friendships he made more than anything else, with long-standing commitments to the Thomson Lake and Elmwood Golf Courses, most recently coordinating the MOB.

Above all, Tim was a kind, loving and soft-hearted man. He was a supportive and affectionate dad, cheering and challenging his kids to fulfill their wildest dreams. He was a playful and steady friend, able to talk to anyone and finding ways to learn from everyone he met. He loved children and was an interested and engaged grandpa, bar none the best at reading stories, roughhousing, and finding the most thoughtful gifts. Tim was a dedicated and caring partner, full of tenderness, compassion and understanding.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Cypress Regional Hospital and the Regina General Hospital, and all of our friends who offered their support during his short but difficult illness with COVID-19. A Celebration of Life will be planned for the Spring 2023.

Tim left us too soon, but he left us as he lived – still strong, still curious, still amused, still golfing.
