Katie (Kay) Trofin

August 7th, 2021

It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear sweet Katie (Kay) Trofin, who passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 7, 2021 at the Regina Pasqua Hospital. Katie was predeceased by her husband Conn; parents Elie and Annie Krasiun; her brothers Constantine, Gabriel, Dan (Marlene), George (Luella) and Bill; her sisters Mary (Dan Vilcu), Helen Tonita, Pauline (Mike Kratchkowski), Florence Kitchen and Agnes Blenner-Hasset.

Katie is survived by her sons Gary and Ross (Michelle); granddaughters Melissa and Alicia; great-grandson Ryder; brothers-in-law Dan Tonita, Jack Kitchen, Dennis Blenner-Hasset; sister-in-law Gloria Krasuin; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Beautiful Katie was a dear and humble soul who was loved by so many. She always had a smile and kind word to whoever she met. She was a loving devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Katie was a country girl raised on a small farm outside Kayville, SK. She married the love of her life Conn in 1949 and together they raised a family in Regina, SK. Katie did work a few odd jobs early in their marriage, but later settled into her main occupation as homemaker. Katie loved to cook. Her cabbage rolls at Christmas and Easter were always a family favorite! Katie also loved gardening, flowers, trips to the country and of course music! Katie's husband and son Ross were musicians and Katie passionately supported them. Katie also had an unmovable and inspiring faith in God that truly guided her life and was never shaken.

Later in life Katie was a resident at Regina Village where she made many friends playing cards, bingo and was shuffle board champion on many occasions. While at Regina Village she was diagnosed with dementia and moved to Pioneer Village, where her son Gary already lived and still resides. Dementia did not slow Katie down. She was famous for walking the halls of Pioneer Village lovingly talking with residents and staff, and though she had a cane it rarely touched the floor. Katie also enjoyed her monthly trips to the casino where she played her penny machines, but mainly loved to socialize with whoever was near her. Katie was later moved to Bright Water Long Term Care Home. She once again became loved by many staff and residents, and now with a walker, would still do her daily trips through the hallways of the facility. Katie unfortunately always had heart problems and was sadly diagnosed with congenital heart failure which eventually took her from us. But while in her hospital bed, even though her heart was failing, she still always managed to give her family a smile and thumbs up.

We would like to thank everyone in Katie's life who blessed her. Special thanks to a special friend Terri Poitras and Katie's daughter in-law Michelle who was always there for her especially during her health decline. Thank you also to the staff of Regina Village, Pioneer Village, Bright Water and of course the nurses at the General Hospital and especially the compassioinate nurses of 4B Pasqua Hospital. Thank you also to Alternatives Funeral Home for making this sad time a comfortable process.

We will be having a Private Family Graveside Service at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery, Regina, SK on Thursday, August 12, 2021 and will have a Celebration of Life Memorial for Katie to be announced soon.

Katie was a light in our life that will never go out in our hearts. We are saddened by her passing but reassured knowing she will awake in Jesus' kingdom. She will be greatly missed.

Messages:

Ross and Michelle, I just read this. I remember Katie from Pioneer Village. Such a dedicated mother to Gary! My condolences.

It was a pleasure to visit with Kay, her upbeat spirit and love of people was always evident. Her love for music was fun to watch and no matter how badly a rehearsal sounded, she was the best fan ever! Praying comfort over your entire family.

So sorry to hear of Katie's passing. Our sincere condolences to all the family. She was a wonderful lady and we will always remember her with a smile. Sincerely, Mary Ann and Dennis

To Ross and Michelle, So many good memories of your mom during our many visits to the Regina-Kayville area. When Ross and Gary slept upstairs in the house in Regina your mom always had a great breakfast ready for you. She could cook up a super meal in no time. As much as I remember her smile and gentle laughter, I guess I remember her meals most of all. It was a pleasure to see her at the Trofin reunion. Simple things make the best memories. Please take care as Connie and I send our love.

Ross, Michelle, Melissa, Ryder and Alicia. We are very saddened by the passing of your mother/mother in law/gramma and great gramma. Kay was for sure a life light with a fantastic smile. Please accept our deepest condolences. Take care of yourselves lots of love Deanna and Les

My mom Fran Hulett (Trofin) would like to send condolences to the family. Kay was loved deeply and will be missed. She enjoyed seeing her at the big family reunion 2009. Rest In Peace Kay, love The Hulett Family

A remarkable lady and made everyone feel very special. Brightened many days for many people. Heaven has one of its angels back home. I know she will be watching over her family and friends and encouraging them every step of the way just as she did while here.
