Gwendolyn "Gwen" Jean Szakacs

October 2nd, 2021

It is with profound sadness that we announce Gwen’s passing at the age of 76 years after a courageous battle with cancer.

Gwen was born in Indian Head, SK and attended school in Kipling, SK. She later started a successful career in Saskatoon, SK at the Federated Co-operatives Limited where she worked her way up to a department manager. She was well known for being hard-working and disciplined as any of her coworkers would attest to. After retiring and moving to Regina, SK Gwen found a very special work family at 20Twenty Wealth Management where she enjoyed the final years of her working career. All who knew Gwen admired her strength, grace and compassion. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Her sense of humour was a gift to us all. She taught us that a good laugh often at ourselves was food for the soul. She loved nothing more than time with family and friends visiting, reminiscing and laughing. Food was a love language for Gwen and we all cherished the countless meals we were blessed to have with her. Gwen was a “plugged in” grandmother loving and supportive to the end. She will be forever missed.

Gwen was predeceased by her parents Lloyd and Muriel Trotter and her sister Betty Stevenson. Gwen leaves to mourn her husband of 58 years Arthur Szakacs; daughter Cindy (Taylor) Szakacs; son Lyall (Lisa) Szakacs and their children Dane and Ty; son Brock (Tracey) Szakacs and their children Erik, Irelynd and Cambri; nieces Leslie and Lani; nephews Dale and Lee; along with many nieces and nephews too numerous to list, but always in her heart.

Special thanks to all the staff at the Regina General Hospital and Pasqua Hospital for their exceptional care given to Gwen.

Interment and Celebration of Gwen’s Life will take place in Corning, SK at a later date yet to be determined. Flowers gratefully declined. Donations may be made in Gwen’s memory to the Allan Blair Cancer Centre.

Messages:

So sad to hear of your tremendous loss. You and Gwen were the first friends Harold and I had as a young married couple in Kipling. We lost touch years ago after moving to Regina and then East. Don't know what made me think of you at this time - thinking about Las Vegas and then remembered the trip we took. And Lyle at 3 peddling his trike to the Credit Union office. Your friendship meant a great deal to us.

Thinking of you Art at this very sad time. My condolences to you and all the family. I have many fond memories of Gwen and the times spent with all the family growing up in Kipling. Take care, and cherish all your wonderful memories. Jane

Dear Art and Family, Gwen was a wonderful, kind soul. She made this world (and our little crescent) a much brighter and better place. We are so very sorry for your loss. Judy & Scott

My condolences to Art and family. I had the pleasure of working with Gwen at Federated Co-op. She was a hard worker, but we also shared many laughs together. And she taught me how to make lasagna. May she rest in peace.
