Lorne Lance Lazorko

January 23rd, 2021

Lorne Lance Lazorko was born on October 29, 1938 and passed away peacefully at the Regina General Hospital on the evening of January 23, 2021. He was predeceased by his wife Marilynn of 51years, his brothers Karmen and Metro, and his sister Myrtle. He leaves behind to remember him, his two brothers Andy (Marlene) Lazorko and Rodney (Darlene) Lazorko; his sister May Tourangeau (Hector); children Arden (Kimberly), Tania, Heidi and Quentin; as well as extended family members and friends.

Lorne was born and raised on the farm near Bankend, Saskatchewan. Lorne had several interesting jobs after leaving the nest. Everything from working at a sawmill in Northern Saskatchewan to being a Postal Carrier in Regina. Though, he always wanted to be a farmer. He met Marilynn Fink, and married her in 1968. They settled near Bankend, Saskatchewan, near his family home, where they farmed and raised their own family. Lorne and Marilynn had a joint love to dance, getting out on the floor for a good waltz and polka when they were able. Lorne loved to play softball, and played with the Birch Creek Ball Club, named after the school that he attended. He was also a good pool player with many wins at small town tournaments. Lorne enjoyed hunting and trapping, and for several years, took his furs to the auction. He became quite proficient at grafting apple trees in a small family orchard and enjoyed trying to grow different varieties of fruits (and nuts). He and Marilynn started a U-Pick Orchard on the home quarter with the first plantings in 1995. They began with Saskatoons, and expanded to apples, raspberries, strawberries, black currents, chokecherries, sour cherries, cranberries, pin cherries, and haskap. Eventually, Lorne retired from commercial farming.

Lorne and Marilynn enjoyed the diversity of the orchard, and even made wine from almost every fruit that they grew. He also tapped Maple Trees in the spring, and boiled the sap in a wood fired evaporator that he built himself, making maple syrup for the family. Lorne supported the local communities, sitting on the Board of Directors with the Coop for many years and helping to build a replica Metis cart with the Lestock Local. Lorne loved the farm and remained there for as long as his health allowed him to. He was a strong person with a strong soul. He will be greatly missed.

In accordance with Lorne’s wishes, the family will not be having a memorial service until it is safe for people to gather together.
