William "Bill" Forshner

August 14th, 2021

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of William (Bill) Forshner, late of Regina, SK at the age of 71. Recently he said, “I’ve had a good life.” And that is what he would wish for everyone that may mourn his passing.

Bill always had more than one project in the works! He liked tasks that kept both his mind and hands busy. He loved to read, bird watch, and simply be outside enjoying nature; that was his happy place. More than anything, Bill loved his children. He was proud of them and encouraged them to forge their own paths in life’s journey. When Bill became a grandfather, he hoped that his grandsons would share his appreciation of the great outdoors. On special occasions like birthdays or Christmas, he had always been one to give money rather than shop. We knew that they held a special place in his heart when one Christmas he went out and bought them each a “Bird Watching for Kids” hard cover book and their first set of binoculars.

An important life lesson he emphasized was not to fear failure. If you said I can’t do this or that, his response was typically along the lines of “why not?” or “how come?!” He respected those that at least tried – no matter what it was. He would celebrate a failure with you as much as he would an accomplishment. Having good character and being trustworthy is what Bill looked for and admired most in others. If you had those traits, you were a friend of his for life and he would do anything for you.

There really is not one specific category or line of work that encompasses Bill. Most recently, he was employed at Jordan Asbestos Removal Ltd (and he really liked it!). Many years ago, Bill owned a motorcycle shop and then vending machine company and over the past decade worked construction/steel framing and installing satellite dishes prior to his employment at Jordan. He was an active member of the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades.

He was once married to Karen (nee Weisgerber) and is survived by their three children Carrie Evans, Shauna Forshner-Werre (Mike), and Shane Forshner; grandchildren Bentley Forshner and Mason Werre; his sisters Ruby Forshner and Pat (Glenn) Strass; sister-in-law Darlene Forshner; nieces and nephews Lindsay, Kyle, Corey, and Megan; an aunt and several cousins. Bill was predeceased by his parents Theodore and Eleanor; his brother Richard; niece Nicole Strass; many dear friends that impacted him greatly including Dave Isbell (whom he had always said was like a brother to him), earlier this year Max Webb, and notably his loyal Black Lab companions Murphy, Brody, and Hayley.

A special heartfelt thank you is extended to long-time friend Dave Kohl and to neighbors Harvey and Dave.

A private interment will be held at a later date. In Bill’s honor, please have a drink or toast and talk about a favorite past-time you shared. That is truly the “no fuss” style of good-bye and remembrance that he would prefer.

Messages:

Bill and I grew up together, and we were very close all through the years at Rosemont and Martin Collegiate. I knew Bill and we chummed around even before Dave starting around grade six. I was a partner with Bill and Rick in City Cycle Centre.that goes back a long ways too. After those years Bill and I drifted apart as people and their lives change…from time to time I’ve wondered where Bill got to, I now I know. All of these childhood memories are from a lifetime ago…..

Bill was my best man at my wedding on December 16th, 1983. He then was courting my now wife’s sister Carol Bessant. He was a joy to be around, enjoying drinks and other things. So sorry for your loss. My deepest condolences go out to the family. RIP.

So sorry to hear of the loss of your father. Our thoughts and prayers are with you in this time of sorrow.
