Nina Grudnizki

December 26th, 2020

On December 26, 2020 Nina took the final big sleep (her words) after years of fighting with congestive heart failure. She enjoyed 92 years of family and friends. Nina was predeceased by her husband Emery; daughter Donna Elliott; sister Betty and brother Jim. She is survived by her daughters Betty Grudnizki of Edmonton; Judy (John) Martin of Regina; son-in-law Allan Elliott of Kelowna; her sister Doreen Stelter of Calgary. She will be fondly remembered by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren Brian Martin and daughters Riley and Jude; Courtney (Darrell) Geiss and daughters Madilynn, Halle, and Katie; Amy (Steve) Brown and children Alexis and Cooper; Drew Martin and children Vada and Emery; Mark Elliott; Nicole (Jake) Pesta; and Jeff Elliott.

She will miss ringing in the New Year with her best friend Stella Mohr, who provided much comfort to Nina and support to Betty and Judy during her last days.

Nina grew up in Saint Boswells, SK but found her adult life as a hairdresser in Regina. This is where she met Emery and after marriage, they became a farm family at Tregarva. She was known for her delicious pies and tasty liver and onions. After the chores, she enjoyed her Homemaker (WI) meetings and attending her daughter’s 4-H achievement days and piano concerts.

In semi-retirement her and Emery spent several winters in the warm climate of Arizona. She kept fit with aqua size classes then enjoying coffee with friends after class. But, her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren. She was fortunate to have four living close enough to walk over for celery sticks when they needed a break from their mom. She also loved visiting and babysitting the three Kelowna grandchildren and teaching them to do household chores while proving that she could deal with spiders with her bare hands.

Thereafter, she was blessed to know nine great-grandchildren. They all shared special moments, whether it was learning to fold clothes, making Jello or teaching her to feed a rabbit. They had to say final goodbyes through the window, but even that brought a last smile to her face.

The family thanks the staff at the Regina Wascana Grace Hospice for the special care Mom received in the final days of her life. In lieu of flowers, we request that you make a donation to a charity of your choice.

I taught Nina aqua size. When I first met her and every encounter since then, she was always so warm and friendly to me. She enjoyed her time with the others in the pool. Attending faithfully until her health no longer allowed. Nina was always put together so nicely, looking polished and presentable. Her and I had a number of chats during coffee time after the pool workout. She readily smiled and was a kind welcoming woman. My condolences to the family on your loss of Nina. I will remember her fondly.

Our sincerest sympathy to all of Nina's family. We remember her for her warm spirit,a beautiful lady and friend. .. ,,

In addition to fighting spiders for our kids in the Okanagan, Nina made delicious matrimonial cake. Sometime at Xmas a package would arrive with her baking. She taught me that it was ok to share it. Nina had more energy than an energizer bunny. I was exhausted just watching her. I loved visiting the family farm in downtown Tregarva where Nina and Emery entertained a constant stream of visitors coming over to ‘check moisture levels’ while having a couple of cups of coffee and some baking. I will miss her. Allan

To Nina's Family You know how much your mom meant to our family. She was always welcoming with a smile and a ready cup of coffee. Lucky were the ones who came on baking day! Growing up with special neighbours close by, can be considered one of the luckies things on earth. As she moves along on her next journey may she go in peace knowing she raised a great family and her work is now complete. Love from all of us
