Gwendolyn Kathleen Hunt

October 12th, 2019

It is with heavy hearts we say good bye to our dearest mother Gwendolyn Kathleen Hunt who lost her battle with cancer on October 12, 2019 at the age of 68 years.

She was predeceased by her parents Mary and Leo Frei; husband Robin Hunt; siblings Andy Frei, Eugene Frei and Emma Weinberger.

Gwen is survived by her son Cory Hunt (Tamara Brewer) and grandchildren Domanik Ilijevski, Brady Hunt and Riley Hunt; daughter Rayna Hunt (John Carver) and grandchildren Avery Hunt, Logan Carver and Ayden Hunt; siblings Jack Frei, Lucille Deschambault, Darlene and Arnie Shalovelo, Bob Frei, and Dan and Lois Frei; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.

Gwendy was a mother, sister, aunt and friend to everyone who touched her life. She worked at the Grab Bag Confectionery for 44 years. There she became an icon and everyone knew Mom from the time I was little as the grab bag lady. There she made lasting bonds that would become part of her family.

On September 25, 1972 she married Robin Hunt. They had a son Cory Hunt and soon after a daughter Rayna Hunt. Family was the cornerstone in her life. Everyone who crossed her life path soon saw and felt this deep connection. Her house was the meeting place for many. She always had an ear to listen and a heart full of love.

Mom was born with music in her blood. I was always amazed how extremely talented she was. She could play many instruments and sing any tune.

It is no surprise that the two things she loved most would come together to be her favorite place at Saskatchewan Beach. It became the mecca for both family and friends and she made sure everyone there would always have a place to feel welcome. There were always performances by the Frei family band that grew all the time. These are the best memories Cory and I have of our family. Fun was infectious there. You left feeling uplifted and full of joy.

We are sure these traditions will continue as we pass down love of life and people to our families as she has done for us. There were so many people who touched her heart.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Mom you will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

Messages:

Many times I would speak with Gwen on the phone but just a few times at the store. Even on the phone her sense of humour and kindness would come across. It was not long after Randy took over the store that Jack became a member of the Grab Bag Gang. When the store changed hands Michelle too, was very much missed. Life goes on but memories will never fade. Gwen will be missed and never forgotten. Jack and Marj Ballentyne
