Lorraine Autet

April 29th, 2018

Lorraine was born on April 10, 1943, the last of Alfred and Julianna Autet’s 12 kids. Mom worked 22 1/2 years for Canadian International Paper until its closing where she made a lot of life-long friendships.  After working for a few different places, she worked for Wasylenko Physiotherapy only a block away from home. Mom couldn’t stay retired; she began making and selling perogies, cabbage rolls, cookies, and butter tarts, to name a few. She loved to cook and it was evident as you would find visitors being made to stay for lunch, supper, or both as she said I don’t know how to cook for one. Her love of cooking helped her find her favourite place in the world, Cypress Hills, where she cooked for a photography workshop held once or twice a year; she lived for this. Everything had to be planned out to the letter and this is where she was named “The Boss”.  For many years Mom cooked for the Wascana Pistol Club’s AGM, and some members only came to the club once a year just for her meal. Fishing was also something Mom looked forward to, whether it was at Candle Lake or fishing the river or the surrounding areas around Nipawin. Mom was a member of the Mallard Wildlife Federation in Rose Valley, SK, she would go and help with the annual fish fry alongside her sister Elsie, brother-in-law Ernie, and family. The last few years were hard on Mom’s health but that only slowed her down instead of making 36 dozen perogies in a day she only made 18 dozen. Donations in Mom’s name may be made to The Mallard Wildlife Federation, C/O Michele Paulson, Box 372, Archerwill, Saskatchewan S0E 0B0.

She was predeceased by her parents Alfred and Julianna Autet; brothers Marcel, Ken, Dennis, and Roger; sisters Margaret Autet, Hermine "Babe" Burechailo, Celeste "Sally" Burechailo, Marie Monuik, and Lucille Toner; brothers-in-law William "Bill" Heimlick, Alex Burechailo, John Burechailo, William "Bill" Monuik, Lloyd Toner, and Ernest Paulson; sister-in-law Sylvia; nieces and nephews Shirley, Darlene, Cecile, Rosalie, Brian, and Robin.

Lorraine is survived by her son Darrin (Gineen); grandson Cole; great-grandson Taylor "Baby T"; brother John (Maureen); sister Elsie Paulson; sisters-in-law Barb and Cecile; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, great-nieces, and great-nephews.  Also friends who were as close as family - She was Mom to many!

A Memorial will be held on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. in the Alano Club, 1165 Pasqua Street, Regina, SK.  Lorraine requested a potluck style lunch for her celebration of life.  She had a seat for everyone at her table no matter if you were friend or family; let’s feast to her memory.

Messages:

I first came to know Lorraine through the Cathedral Area Community Garden. We became friends. I loved her zesty personality & zesty jalapeño perogies. She was a kind & generous soul who will be missed. My condolences.

My condolences to your family. Lorraine was a great neighbour of ours. We thought we might move back next door again, but it never happened. We are so happy that we kept in touch over the years. She will be missed.

I was so sorry to hear of your mother’s passing. My thoughts and prayers go out to you Darrin and your family.
