BAKER, Walter Russell

Walter Baker passed away peacefully on Friday, May 15, 2015 at the age of 92 years.  Walter grew up in Saskatchewan, and after a brief stint on the family farm in Ontario, he relocated back to the Prairies to wed his sweetheart, Joyce in 1955.   Walter and Joyce settled in Central Alberta and raised their family in Bowden, Alberta.  Walter was actively involved within the community and the United Church, and once he retired, he was found on the Bowden Golf Course or the Olds Golf Course daily with his good friend, Jack.  Once the snow flew the pair took to curling in the Innisfail Seniors Curling League.  Walter and Joyce raised four children, and family was always first in their lives.  Walter was extremely proud of his children and his grandchildren who were driving the golf cart as soon as their feet could reach the pedals.

Walter leaves to mourn, his children, Dale (Joni) Baker, Elaine (Martin) Baker-Rowe, Karen (Tim) Baker; 4 grandsons; 3 granddaughters; and 3 great grandchildren. Walter was pre deceased by his son, Raymond (2010); and wife, Joyce (2013).

Donations in Walter’s memory may be made to Safe Harbour Society, 5246 – 53 Avenue, Red Deer, AB, T4N 5K2 (www.safeharboursociety.org).
