September 7th, 2018

December 1923 to September 2018

Ron, a long-time resident of North Vancouver, passed away peacefully at the age of 94. He was predeceased by his first wife of 37 years, Dorothy (Chaster). He leaves behind his second wife of 26 years, Dorothy (Smith).  Ron was an exemplary father to his 4 children: Brian, Steven, Michael, Sally, Dorothy’s 4 children: Kathy, Shelley, Karen, Donna, and all of their spouses. He was much loved as Grandad by his18 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

Ron lived a full life.  He served in the Seaforth Highlanders in WWII, graduated from UBC and enjoyed a 39-year career as a mechanical engineer. After a brief retirement and at the age of 69 Ron graduated from Regent College with a Master of Theological Studies. He then served in Christian ministry in Africa and China into his mid 80’s!

Ron’s deep Christian faith inspired so many people. He was extraordinarily patient, thoughtful, kind, and giving. Ron was a coach, mentor and bible study leader with a good listening ear.  He will be missed by all who knew him.

Messages:

Peter and I knew Ron for many years at St. Catherines and shared many happy times together. Peter worked for Ron in his basement in North Vancouver helping him on a number of projects whilst he was "in-between" jobs. Ron was a wonderfully kind Christian man. May he rest in peace with his Lord.

I was really sorry to hear of Ron's passing. Sally, Steven, Michael and Brian, my condolences go out to you all. I remember your father as a very friendly and outgoing gentleman with a big smile on his face. Our parents enjoyed many years together in the "Bridge club". I think your Dad was the last remaining member of this neighborhood club.

Dorothy and family, We send our sincere condolences. We enjoyed being “across the street neighbors” on Croydon Place, N. Vancouver; discussing with Ron our families and world news while out gardening. Charlie and Sandra Mayne

Hello Brian, Peter Gordon here from many decades back in North Van and at St. Catherine's etc. My condolences over your father's passing. My memory of him is of a very kind and gentle man. I last saw him at Gower Point many years ago. My late aunt, Muriel Beaton Wood had a place there. When you have a minute, drop me an email at peter@cascadiaconsulting.ca and say hello. It would be good to re-connect. Blessings mate. Peter
