Douglas William Giles

November 7th, 2018

In loving memory of Douglas William Giles who passed away suddenly in Langley, BC on November 7, 2018.

He was predeceased by his parents, William David and Florence Patricia (Olson) and his sister Barbra Gail Thompson.

He leaves behind his wife Dawn Wilkins, daughter Chantelle (Danny) Savage, son Clint (Carmen) Giles, daughter Pamela (Dale) Bowling, as well as his children through love, Clancy and Molly Doherty. His precious grandchildren Chloe, Logan, Linden, Ryder and Sophia. His cherished siblings Dawn (Dave), Melody, Valerie (Bob), Susan (Ed) and Penny. Along with the mother of his children Merna, many nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Doug’s family meant to the world to him, always being involved with his children and grandchildren. A great day for Doug was fishing with his son and when one of his girls tagged along. The next best thing was riding his Harley on a sunny day. His work was unrivalled and he was a proud lineman, NOT technician, for 45 years. He truly enjoyed working his “retirement” with Seth and the boys from IBEX.

All are invited to attend a Celebration of Life in honour of Doug on Sunday December 2, 2018 from 12pm-4pm at the Harris Barn in Ladner (4140 Arthur Dr, Delta, BC). In lieu of Flowers, those wishing to make a donation in memory of Doug are encouraged to do so to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Messages:

I met Doug as a young man here in Dryden and though we had our different ways I always liked him and enjoy his company. He was always a honest man with me and I liked that very much. To me he was a true friend and I will miss him dearly and hold him in my heart and memories for life. I am SO sorry to all family members for the loss of such a good man.

I first met Doug when I was 13 as a yard rat, Im 51 now. I can remember him playing a couple of good pranks on me through the years when our paths crossed. My father never gave compliments about anyone but he sure did with Doug. I will always remember his laugh, his smile and his good nature. They just dont make em like Doug anymore, he was one of the last of a dieing breed. Cat on a pole and bulletproof! RIP Doug, You were one hell of a person and one hell of a lineman. Gone and remembered always. Dino

We are so sorry to hear of Doug’s passing. We send our love to you and your family. Take care. ❤️❤️❤️

This is the saddest news and my heart goes out to the family. Doug and I had known each other for many years and it was always nice to run into him when he would be home for family visits. Always made me giggle, I can picture his smile so clearly. Sending my love to you all❤️

So sorry about the very sad news... Doug and I go back to the old days of Hume & Rumble together.. lmao He and I were pole partners for several years.. Had a lot of fun together, both working and in other festive occasions.. My condolences go to all the families, and friends whom knew him.. I thought it was especially nice for Chantelle, Pamela, and Merna to contact me.. In their time of pain... You have Immortalized your Father, husband, and dear friend by the many pictures, and fond memories you share.. He will be with you forever. Take care, and Love to All... Cheers. Garry.

I am so sorry for your loss. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

Goodbye to my dear old dad. I will miss you forever. I’m so grateful of all the trips we shared and family time. You are my very best friend in the whole world. Ryder will miss the fun play fighting with grandpa. We love you daddy

Doug and Robin worked together in Victoria BC. I remember having dinners with Doug and Myrna. Our kids played together, and later Merna and I shared an interest in horses. Through the years we have been in touch and thank you Chantelle for sharing this time with me. I know it is hard to say goodbye to some one you love, but I have learned they are really always with you. Sincerely, Ann

All our love and thoughts are with you and your family. Can not express in words the sadness of the loss of your father. Love, Jan and Hugh

My deepest condolences to your whole family- I had the pleasure of meeting Doug on a few occasions- I did not know him well but he was someone that stuck in your memory... I remember when I met him well because he came trick or treating with us and the kids and he had a fake pack of gum that gave you a shock when you took a piece. He was so delighted when he “got” me
