Jim "David" Greig

December 5th, 2017

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Jim Greig on December 5, 2017 in his 95th year.

Jim was born in Vancouver and was a long time East Vancouver resident. He is predeceased by his wife of 55 wife years, Mary.  Together they lived on 3rd Ave in Vancouver for 35 years, Penticton for 10 years and Surrey for 10 years until Mary passed away in 2005.  Jim has lived in Burnaby for the past 12 years.

Jim’s great sense of humour and love of sports will be cherished by his two sons George (Karen) and Jim (Karen); five grandchildren, Dustin (Marie), Michelle (David), Carlee (Clint), Liam (Leanne) and Daniel (Sarah); six great grandchildren, Isabelle, Lincoln, Elise, Thea, Adam, Isla; and his nephew and lifelong friend John Newbold.

Jim was the last of three soccer star brothers, Jim being a member of the BC Sports Hall of Fame (1947 St. Andrews team), Doug (2003) a member of the Canadian Soccer Hall of Fame and George (1952) a professional player with the Los Angeles Scots.  Jim was a perennial selection to the BC All Star teams in the 1950’s that played against visiting English and Scottish touring clubs. Many lower mainland players will remember Jim as a long-time coach with The Grandview Legion.

The kindness and care of the staff at the Mulberry PARC and the Fair Haven care home in Burnaby is greatly appreciated.

There will be no service by request.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Jim to the Canadian Cancer Society.
