Marion Elizabeth MacHaffie
December 8th, 2015
Marion MacHaffie, a resident of Aldergrove passed away on Tuesday, December 8, 2015 at the Cascade Hospice in Chilliwack. Marion was born in 1946, the first of four children for Ray and May Smith. She was united in marriage to Al MacHaffie on June 23, 1994 in true Western style.
Marion was a graduate of Simon Fraser University where she studied Education. She had a deep rooted passion for teaching children and translated that passion into 35 years of service as a grade school teacher. She loved being a teacher and loved her students. Her tenure was long enough that she actually taught children of the children she had in her class in earlier years.
Marion’s other passion was animals, notably dogs and horses. She raised and showed dogs and they were always her trusted companions. She fell in love with horses at a very early age. It all started with her first horse Tiny in 1962 and that was just the beginning of a long and colourful career as a devoted horse woman.
Anyone who ever knew Marion recognized she had a zest for life and an incredible energy about her. To quote a recent Facebook entry, “she had more energy than that famous pink bunny!” Or…as someone else commented, she had the drive of 100 horses!
Marion also had a strong desire to learn. Anything new was a challenge, eagerly accepted and always championed. When being busy 24 hours a day was not enough, Marion started her own embroidery business, teaching herself the craft and earning a reputation as one of the best.
She was a loving and kind person, always willing to help when needed. She was a devoted wife to Al who recently commented “she was an amazing and caring wife; she looked after me above and beyond anyone.” Marion was an incredible big sister, dearly loved by David, Colin and Debbie. She was a cherished aunt to many nieces and nephews. She always had an encouraging word and her legacy of love and devotion will live on in all that have had the good fortune of knowing Marion.
