Edwin Harold Hintz

Edwin Hintz was born in Waldheim, Saskatchewan. Early on, the family moved to the Fraser Valley, where his father bought brush land, cleared it and started a dairy and raspberry farm. After the war, Edwin took advantage of new educational opportunities to graduate from high school and at 18 left the farm for Normal School (Teacher’s College) and UBC, in Vancouver.  He went on to be a much loved teacher and principal with the Vancouver School Board.

He faithfully contributed to the life of the church, including helping to found the Point Grey Inter-Mennonite Fellowship. With his wife Hedie, Edwin spent his retirement years travelling and volunteering. He struggled good-naturedly with golf, and enjoyed music, singing with the Vancouver Welshmen’s Choir.  Edwin had an inquiring mind and was constantly reading, especially about science and politics.

Edwin is predeceased by his dear wife Hedie and sister Elsie (Albert).  He will be greatly missed by his three children Carl (Doreen), Susan (Fred), Peter (Dagmar), and grandchildren Laura (Tim), Graeme (Alicia), Felix, Forrest, Madeleine, Marlene, Judith and Simon and great grandchild Benjamin as well as by many friends and family, including brother Jake (Kathy), and companion Chrissy Finch.

A celebration of Edwin’s life will be held on Friday, December 4, at 1 p.m., Fraserview M.B. Church, Richmond B.C.
