Margaret Shippey

SHIPPEY, Margaret (nee Smith)

1929 – 2022

Margaret Shippey (nee Smith) peacefully passed away on Thursday, April 7, 2022 at the age of 92.

Beloved wife of Mason Shippey (deceased March 4, 2000) and mother of Barbara (Kevin), Craig (Willy), and Karen (Kenn), she was grandmother of six loving grandchildren and their partners and great grandmother of four.

Margaret was born and raised in Thornaby, Yorkshire and emigrated to Canada to marry her beloved Mason in 1952, living over the years in Ontario and Alberta.  Margaret always kept her family entertained with her talents as an accomplished coloratura soprano and pianist.  She was a devoted wife, mom and friend and when her children were grown she returned to the 9 – 5 world as a private secretary for Domtar Packaging. Margaret was a passionate seamstress and knitter creating beautiful items for nieces and nephews in England as well as her own family in between her gardening, baking, pickling and preserving. Special thanks to the care team at Wentworth Manor for their engagement and care over the past 2 years.  As Parkinson’s severely affected Margaret’s life, the family asks in lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made to a Parkinson’s cause of your choice. A Private Family Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Cheers to a life well lived, Mom.

Because we knew you, we have been changed for good.

Messages:

I was deeply saddened to read of Margaret's passing. I knew Mason and Margaret and their young family when I was welcomed to their Calgary home many years ago. Margaret and I corresponded at Xmas. My fondest memory of your mom and dad was when Irvin and I were married. Margaret baked our wedding cake and Mason walked me down the aisle. Irvin and I were truly blessed. Our deepest sympathies to all the families.

Dear Karen – Just a note of condolence and concern from Jessie and me to you and your family on the death of your mother. We know and think highly of you as Karan Shippey-Heilman, Executive Director here at the Manor at Signature Park, our home., where “your door is always open” What a pleasant surprise it was to learn on your appointment here that you sing in the opera chorus along with our son and grandson Graham and Joshua and as a result had a surprisingly broad knowledge of our extended family. Healing takes time, and we look forward with pleasure to the day you return.

To the family - I am sad to read of Margaret's passing. She will be missed for sure. I had such fun talking with her when I visited her at her home. She was and interesting and fun person. Prayers all around for all the family.

I’m so sorry to hear your wonderful mom has passed and while I only met her once I remember her as a lovely interesting lady. Now I realize your talent and joy of singing comes from your mom Karen. Hard to lose a parent. My most sincere condolences to you all. Love. Aunty Irene

To Karen, Kenn, Andrea, Brittany, Mason and families So sorry to hear this sad news. Thinking of you all.
