Rickey Norwood

December 13th, 2019

On Friday, December 13, 2019 at the age of 75, our beloved mother, adored grandmother, dear sister and friend, Rickey Norwood passed away peacefully in her sleep.

Rickey was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan to Fred and Elizabeth Norwood on November 7, 1944.  She went to Ross Sheppard High School and University of Alberta in Edmonton and graduated from the University of Calgary with her Master of Education.  Her love for children and passion for lifelong learning led her to a fulfilling career as a teacher librarian with the Calgary Board of Education. She was also an active member of the Alberta Teachers’ Association.

Rickey is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Stephanie Jackman (Dion Ullrich); granddaughter, Layla; her siblings, Daryl Duhamel, Don Norwood and Brian Norwood; and many special nieces, nephews and cousins. Rickey was predeceased by her parents.

Our family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the team at Carewest Sarcee Hospice for the excellent care and joy they provided Rickey in her final weeks.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, January 20, 2020 at 1:00pm at Ralph Klein Park in the Dragonfly Room, 12350 - 84 St SE, Calgary, AB.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Rickey’s memory to Calgary Reads (www.calgaryreads.com) in support of her lifetime passion for childhood literacy.

Messages:

With sympathy and heartfelt condolences. Our and friendship to you all in such a tough time. Rickey is so special and will be missed.

Stephanie and Family - I am more saddened than I can say. Rickey was such a wonderful co-worker and friend. She was always such a delight to be with - interesting, energetic and positive about every experience. 75 is too young to leave - there was much of life to be lived. My thoughts are with you all at this most difficult time.

Stephanie, Dion & Layla - our heartfelt condolences. Rickey was a wonderful, caring, generous cousin. We shall miss her dreadfully; especially those monthly phone calls across 'the pond' but can look back on some fabulous years of fun, hilarity and friendship both in W Canada and in the UK. RIP Rickey.........you will be forever loved

Dear Steph, Dion & Layla (and family) - Losing someone we love is never easy, but we must be thankful for, the beautiful moments and memories we shared with them. Your (grand)mother was a beautiful and kind soul, and she will not be forgotten. Sharing in your sorrow. With love and friendship, Tas
