Gordon Alexander Boyd

April 11th, 2018

Gordon Alexander Boyd passed away peacefully at the age of 89 on Tuesday, April 3, 2018.

Born on the family farm to Frank and Alice Boyd of Lomond, AB, Gordon was the oldest of eight children.

At 13 years of age Gordon rode his first cattle round up with his dad and later rode the fall cattle roundups at the community pasture for 15 years. One day he rode past Majorville School leading a team of horses, not knowing that his future wife was looking out the window watching the handsome cowboy. On March 14, 1953 Gordon married Dorothy Elizabeth Winch and that love was the beginning of 65 years together.

Gordon farmed for many years, beginning in Milo, then Queenstown and finally in Hanna, where they purchased a farm in 1968. In 1997 Gordon and Dorothy moved to an acreage on the edge of Hanna where he could still “farm” the garden. Gordon loved nothing better than a good story and always had time for visiting with friends and neighbours, including visits to the John Deere.

In 2012 Gordon and Dorothy moved to Olds to be closer to family, then several years later moved to Didsbury Bethany Care Centre.

Gordon will be forever remembered by his beloved wife, Dorothy Boyd nee Winch; children, Owen Boyd (Karen Prescott), Pat (Mark) Kolenchuk, and Bob (Jackie) Boyd; his eight grandchildren, Kevin (Angela) Boyd, Kelly Boyd, Rebecca (Stephen) Hagglund, Diane Jacob, Dustin Boyd, Cole (Charley) Boyd, Shawn (Katelyn) Boyd, and Brock Boyd; as well as his 5 great-grandchildren Jeffrey Hagglund, Zachary Hagglund, Tessa Boyd, Tyson Boyd and Mia Boyd.

He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Alice Boyd, brother Murray Boyd, and daughter-in-law Patricia Boyd.

A Celebration of Gordon’s Life was held on April 9th, 2018 at Olds Church of the Nazarene. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Salvation Army (420 – 9th Ave SE Calgary, AB T2G 0R9) or STARS Air Ambulance (Box 570, 1441 Aviation Park NE Calgary, AB T2E 8M7).
