STRAWSON, Kimberly Hope

Kimberly Hope Strawson (nee Doherty) passed away quietly at the Dulcina Hospice in Calgary on Monday, August 14, 2017 with her husband, Fred by her side.

Kim’s most cherished work times, which were actually volunteer hours, were when she prepared costumes and backdrops for the kids plays at RJ Hawkey Elementary for about 9 years. Lately, until she couldn’t work anymore, she worked for the Rockyview School district as the Community Use Supervisor, organizing which groups went to which school, allotting staff, and for special events she was always happy to work with a bunch of nice people.

Kim enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening and knitting and was an avid reader. She was always ready to give advice and also always helped family members that were in need of some help. Left to cherish her life through memories are her husband of 27 years, Fred; son, Ben of Edmonton; stepson, David (Samantha) of Calgary; grandchildren, Kiara, Alexander and Daede; sisters, Judy, Linda (Archie), Karen (Murray) and Wendy; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Rose; sister, Deborah; brother-in-law, Bernie and nephew, Shane. Cremation has already taken place. A get together with family and friends took place at home on Saturday, August 19, 2017. Thanks very much to those who attended. Those who unfortunately could not attend, please visit when you can. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Kim’s memory to the Oncology department of the Tom Baker Cancer Centre or the Neurology department at the Foothills Hospital. A big thank you to all the doctors, nurses and staff that looked after Kim at all the hospitals in Calgary over the last couple of years. She visited them all. As well as a big thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff of the Dulcina Hospice. It’s easy to understand why each of you chose your profession.

“Time to rest, hon. Now fishing is whenever you want it to be.
Take Candy and Sandy with you. You are loved and dearly missed.”

Messages:

It's with sadness to hear of Kim's passing. I always enjoyed our visits. She was so strong and upbeat through her long battle with cancer. My thoughts are with all of the family.

My condolences to you Fred and all the family on Kim's passing. She will be missed.

Kim was a very special person and she definitely loved being around children. Her grandchildren were her world. She was such a strong lady to fight that horrible cancer for 3 years so valiantly. We must remember her always and not fear remembering things she said or did. May she catch up with Bernie and all the other people that have moved on to a pain free life. I think of all of the Strawson men, Samantha, and all the grandchildren often. God Bless all of you. Love Judy Stutzke

My deepest sympathy to Kims Family Cousin Elaine
