Shirley was born March 15, 1940 in Coderre, SK to Wilson and Robina Gray. She was the youngest of their five children; three sisters, Margaret, Priscilla (Sis) and Patricia; and brother, James. She passed away on Sunday, October 15, 2017 in the Didsbury Hospital in Didsbury, AB at the age of 77 years.

Shirley moved her family to Alberta in 1967 to be with her son’s father, Reid Ivie and lived in various communities in the Calgary area.  In 1975, the family moved to Crossfield to open Ivie’s Coffee Shop on the highway. When Reid passed away, Shirley took an opportunity to go back to school (Career College) and was successful in obtaining employment with the Alberta Government Public Trustee in the mid to late 80’s and remained employed there for over 25 years, finally retiring at the age of 74. Shirley and her son Bill settled in the Didsbury area in 2012, where she retired enjoying gardening and country living until losing her battle with lung cancer.

Shirley leaves behind her son, Wilson (Bill) Ivie; daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Bob Wood; numerous nieces, nephews, adopted children and grandchildren. She was predeceased by her daughter, Connie; her parents; siblings; and common law spouse, Reid Ivie.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Mountain View Community Hall (three miles east of the Didsbury overpass) on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Rosebud Health Foundation, PO Box 962, Didsbury, AB T0M 0W0.

 

Shirley will be missed dearly.
