BAKER, Ruby Millicent
November 24, 1917 – March 25, 2017

Ruby passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at the Didsbury Hospital at the age of 99. Ruby was born Nov. 24, 1917 in Llanhillith, Wales and in 1926, at the age of 9 moved with her parents and 11 siblings to Canada. They settled in the Eagle Hill area west of Olds where she attended Eagle Hill School until she was 14 and then attended the Waterside School for one year. At the age of 18, she married John Baker on Dec. 6, 1935. They lived on the farm at Waterside until 1960 when they bought a farm near Cremona, Alberta. Ruby always mentioned how the people in and around Cremona had welcomed them with open arms and hearts and how much she enjoyed all of the lasting friendships she made. Ruby loved to play crib and was so proud of her 29 hand that was mentioned in the local paper. She enjoyed community events and get togethers with neighbours and friends at the Cremona Gold and Silver Seniors Center. Ruby and John had 3 children, Millicent, Bob and Sharon and Ruby is lovingly remembered and missed by her son, Bob; daughter, Sharon; all of her grandchildren, great grandchildren as well as great, great grandchildren.

To quote Ruby on her 95th Birthday… “I feel I have lived a long and fruitful life, and have been blessed with a loving family and many friends”.

A Celebration of Ruby’s Life will be held at the Cremona Community Hall on Saturday, April 8, 2017 from 1:00 to 5:00 pm. Ruby’s family would like all who knew her to please attend and celebrate with them.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Ruby’s memory to a charity of your choice.
