March 18, 1958  Toronto, ON

January 15, 2014  Calgary, AB

The funniest, most wonderful person in the world has passed away peacefully, to be with her Lord, surrounded by loving family and friends after a courageous 19 year battle that began with a virus attacking her heart.  She endured a heart transplant and 15 years of arduous medical treatment that culminated in cancer and organ failure.  Through it all, she rarely complained and never failed to show the most inspiring and uplifting attitude.

She is survived by her children, Matthew (fiancée Sandra), Karen (Jay) and Kristen (boyfriend Matt); her grandchild Ava;  Pat Smith;  her parents Andy and Rita Knibbe; her siblings, Sylvia (John), Marilynne (Lawrence), John (Charene), Harry (Coby), and Karen (Ray); and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.  A Service to Celebrate her Life will be held on Monday, January 20 at 1:00 pm, in the Chapel at Centre Street Church, Central Campus, 3900 - 2 St NE, Calgary, AB.  Donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Suite 200, 119 – 14th Street NW, Calgary, AB T2N 1Z6 in Winnie's memory. Winnie will always be remembered for her zest for life, putting others first, her enduring strength, and her love of God and family.

Messages:

So sorry to hear of your loss. May Christ give you strength & peace during this difficult time. We will be praying for you all each day. Ward & Margaret

Our thoughts and prayers to Winnies family - who are left behind. You will miss her as do her friends but I can picture her living her in her forever life with a big smile and doing every extreme thing she has ever wanted to attempt. No restrictions. Family we pray comfort and strength as you face the hole she will leave.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I know we'll see her again once we get rid of this earth suits, but it's small comfort right now I'm sure. I wasn't able to get to know her real well aside from those few years when I'd visit Matt during high school. She was always a blast and brought great perspective to our high school struggles we were going through. Although I didn't know her for long, I'm glad for the chance to know her and her family. She's very well represented in the kids and husband she helped groom :)

Pat and children, John and I send our sincere condolences at the death of Winnie. While we can rejoice that she is with Christ in heaven, we sorrow with you at your loss. I am sure she'll be greatly missed. May God grant you His peace, a peace that passes understanding as you mourn, John and Jennie
