Lydia Olive Stauffer

Lydia OLIVE Stauffer was born on her father’s homestead west of Crossfield on March 16, 1915 and passed away peacefully at Bethany Care, Airdrie on Saturday, November 2, 2013, at the age of 98 years.  She was the fourth daughter of William and Elsina Stauffer.  She attended Olds College in 1937 and then took her nurses RN Training at the Holy Cross Hospital, graduating “top of her class” in 1942.  Olive worked in hospitals and doctor’s offices in Lacombe, Ponoka, Olds and Didsbury.  After retiring she spent 16 years in Kelowna before returning to Airdrie, living in Fletcher Village before moving to Bethany. She was predeceased by her 3 sisters and their husbands, Pearl (Tom) Chalmers, Ruth (George Enns), May (Bill) MacDonald, one nephew (Neil MacDonald), and 2 great nephews.  She is lovingly remembered by her nephews Arnot Chalmers, Don (Laura) Chalmers, and nieces Verdell (Jake) Andres, Marva (Duane) Harder, Judy (Bill) Snyder, Janet MacDonald and their families including numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews.  She is also survived by her personal caregiver Sharan Bennett, and a host of friends, especially George and Boza Udzenija of Kelowna. A Memorial Service will be held at Crossfield Baptist Church, 285176 – 2A Way, Crossfield on Friday, November 8, at 2:30 PM.  Thank-you to Dr. White and the staff at Bethany for their never-ending care.
