Tillie Stack

February 16th, 2013

Mrs. Tillie Stack of Calgary, beloved wife of the late Fred Stack, passed away on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at the age of 92 years, after a courageous battle with cancer. Tillie leaves behind to cherish her memory one daughter, Sharon (Neil) Cameron; one brother, Ed Maser; one sister, Helen (Leroy) Wegner; and one sister-in-law, Vi Mantz as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her husband Fred, Tillie was predeceased by her parents, Jacob and Amelia Maser; three sisters,Ella (Emil) Eslinger, Clare (Arnold) Stromsmoe, Irene (Cliff) Reierstad and sister and brother-in-laws, Ellen Maser, Lil (Elmer) Hildenbrandt and Jim Mantz.

Tillie was born on August 13th 1920, the third of six children on the Maser farm in the New Home District northeast of Manyberries, Alberta.

She moved to Medicine Hat in her early twenties and worked at Dominion Glass in Redcliff and Woolworth in Medicine Hat until she married Fred on June 29, 1951. The couple then moved to Saskatchewan until 1962 when they returned to Medicine Hat, then moved to Calgary in 1964.

Tillie started working for Calgary Co-op in 1965 until her Retirement 25 years later. She loved all the friends she made at Co-op and was still meeting the girls for “Lunch” many years later. Tillie loved camping with family and friends, bowling, playing cards and meeting friends for lunch and a good gab session. She also liked to be involved in organizing card tournaments or volunteering to deliver Meals on wheels, which she enjoyed for many years.

The family wishes to thank the caregivers from We Care for all their care of Mom for the last few years, especially Diane, who has been with Mom since day one. To all the Staff at Meals on Wheels and the delivery people who would deliver her meals last so that they could come in and visit for a few minutes. The girls at City Link who were so good at letting her supervise all morning, and last to Brenda who came in to do her hair every Monday, you made her week so she would look good when she went out. You all made it possible for Tillie to stay in her home for as long as she did. We would also like to thank the Nurses and Doctors at The Rockyview Hospital , especially Analeshia in the ER, and Analyn and Ryan in Unit 72 and Dr. Rudy and Dr. Polic for all your care and compassion, we will always be grateful.

Those wishing to attend Tillie’s Celebration of Life may join us at The Lutheran Church of Our Saviour,  8831 Fairmount Drive SE on Saturday, March 2nd at 2:00 pm. A luncheon will follow at the Church’s Fellowship Hall, where we can share memories of Tillie. A private family interment will take place at The Hillside Cemetery in Medicine Hat. Memorial Gifts in Tillie’s memory may be made to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, 430, 1324 – 17 Ave. SW, Calgary, AB T2T 5S8.
