Robert George Wilson

Robert “Bob” George Wilson, age 90, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at the PLC Santuari Hospice in Calgary with his family at his side. 

He leaves his loving wife of 66 years, Helen Wilson (nee Olson); his daughter, Donna (Jack) Lumax of Swan River, MB; son Keith (Winnie) Wilson of Airdrie, AB; daughter Judy (Bill) Barevich of Airdrie, AB and son Doug (Mary) Wilson of Winnipeg, MB; grandchildren Lori, Greg, Brian, Kim, Sheri, Brad, Mike, Kaitlin, Tessa, Cade, Mark, Jeff and Daniel; sisters Ethel Plaster of Prince Albert, SK and Betty (Murray) Hayes of Regina, SK as well as many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and in-laws.  Bob was predeceased by his sons, Wayne, Dale and Billy; his parents Walter and Tressie Wilson; his brother Syd Wilson and sister Evelyn Walkoski. 

Bob was born in Swan River, MB and raised on his family’s farm in Birch River, MB.  He was a proud veteran that served in The Royal Canadian Navy during WWII.  After the war, he returned home and married Helen Olson of Moose Range, SK.  Bob and Helen later moved to Flin Flon, MB where he worked at HBMS as a carpenter.  In 1954 they returned to Swan River Valley and took over his uncle’s farm.  In 1971 the family moved to Winnipeg, MB and he worked in construction for a number of years.  In 1979 Bob and Helen moved to Edmonton, AB where he continued in the construction industry.  He retired in 1981 in Airdrie, AB where they remained until his passing. 

His family will remember him as a man of integrity; a selfless husband, father and grandfather who never let time or distance diminish his love.  He will be dearly missed and never forgotten. 

A Memorial Service will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch # 288, 508 – 3 Avenue SE, Airdrie on Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at 1:30pm.  An Interment Service will be held this summer in Swan River, MB. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bob’s memory to the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch # 288, 508 – 3 Avenue SE, Airdrie, Alberta T4B 2C2 or to the Tom Baker Cancer Centre, c/o Alberta Cancer Foundation, 1331 – 29 Street NW, Calgary, Alberta  T2N 4N2.

Helen and family-- I was sorry to read of Bob's passing. He was a gentle, loving man. After 66 years of marriage, he will leave a large void Helen. I have called Dad to let him know. If the weather is ok on Tuesday, I will be at the Memorial service.
