ANNAS, Ronald William

February 24, 1963 – February 2, 2022

It with a deeply broken heart that I announce the sudden and expected loss of my brother, Ron, on February 2, 2022, peacefully at his home in Calgary, AB.  Born in Hanna, AB on February 24, 1963 to Gus and Myrtle Annas, Ron chose to follow in his Dad’s footsteps and began working with CN Rail at the age of 18. He loved ‘riding the rails’ and eventually moved to Edmonton, AB and finally settled in Calgary, AB.

Ron was a quiet man and had a small circle of friends throughout his life. He loved playing his guitar or jamming with friends, reading and had a passion for fishing, history and playing crib. He had many fond memories of setting up crib tournaments these past 2 years with his friends and also playing nightly which offered so much happiness for him. One of his greatest memories dates back to the mid 1980’s as he was held over in Edson on a work trip and Diane was able to make ‘strudels’ for him and a big lunch to carry him through back to Edmonton.

He leaves to mourn his sister, Diane (Ted) in Escondido, CA, USA; nephews, Douglas (Houston, TX) and Brian(Alyssa) (Bakersfield, CA); brother, Randy (Lillian) in Boyle, AB; and nieces, Amanda, Ashley, Angela (Mike) and Alicia (Edmonton); nephews, Chad, Rob, and Krissy Bannick (BC); “one in a million” cousin, Connie (John); and several Aunts and Uncles; his best friend 'Stef' and many special friends at CDC in Calgary who loved him and stood by him these past few years.

Ron was predeceased by his father, Gus (2014); sister, Debbie (2013); and mother, Myrtle (2001).

No service had been requested by Ron. The family kindly asks donations to be made to STARS, Box 570, 1441 Aviation Park NE, Calgary, AB, T2E 8M7 or a local charity within Hanna. Cremation proudly provided by Alternatives Funeral & Cremation, Airdrie, AB. Final resting place to be determined at a later time.

You and I shared laughs and tears,

And we knew each others fears.

Your number I’d dial almost every night,

Now there’s no answer, this doesn’t seem right.

So many more talks we were supposed to share,

I find myself dialing and continue to stare.

It was your time to leave, only God knew,

Rest in peace dear brother, I love you.

Messages:

To Diane, the family and friends of Ron, On behalf of the CN RailVets of Southern Alberta, I would like to extend our condolences for your loss. Sincerely, Judy Woods, President CN RailVets of Southern Alberta E2

From one longtime Hanna railroad family to another longtime railroad family, our condolences to the family.

It is with such a heavy heart that I learned of this. Ron and I were best buddies as children, so many memories of hiking, biking and just kids having fun. My deepest condolences to you all.

Rest in peace my friend. I hope you can finally meet Mary. She'll talk your ear off but you 2 will be good friends. Mind you you'll probably talk her ear off. I miss you and hope to see you again. Ron C
