Wendy Elizabeth Waslander (nee Raeburn)

May 28, 1947 – May 27, 2021

With profound sadness we announce the passing of Wendy, our loving and devoted mother and friend to all whose lives she touched, on Thursday, May 27, 2021.

She left us while sleeping peacefully at her residence in Didsbury, Alberta. She was in her 73rd year.

Born in London, Ontario, she witnessed incredible changes to her world, moving back and forth across Canada, with her family to finally settle in Manitoba.  Here she met and married Wayne McDonell(div.1986). While Wayne worked pipe-line she raised their 3 girls, working hard to be everything they needed including baseball coach when required. After moving to Alberta they parted ways. A few years later she met and married, Dedde Waslander.

She was the beloved mother of Diana (Rob), Cindy (Jamie), Marcia (Shane); and step-mother to Todd (Marcie); proud grandmother of Cheryl (Tim), Kaela (Bruce), Blaine (Dana), Jarred and Cody; and devoted great-grandmother of Milo, Mathis, Hunter, Colby and Mika.

She is also survived by her sister, Susan (Larry) Desaulniers. Wendy was predeceased by her devoted husband, Dedde; brothers, James, Terrance, and Robert.

Wendy lived a full life as a wonderful mother, homemaker and worker in retail butcher shops, finally working in Calgary Co-op(s) meat and deli departments for 20 years.

She loved cooking, canning and kept an immaculate house. Raised to make a dollar stretch, if she couldn’t afford “it” she would make it herself.  She was crafty like that…

Most of all she loved her family and instilled in her daughters’ strong values that have served them well. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.

Messages:

I met Wendy in 1960. She was always a goer. Got things done. Very creative person and cared so much for family. Life was not always kind to her but she had the grit to go forward. We will miss her . God Bless and rest peacefully. Carol&Dave Johnstone

On behalf of the Threads of Kindness group that Wendy was a part of for several years we would like to express our sympathy to her family. Wendy was such a generous person as was evident in the large donation of beautiful fabric which we received when she no longer felt she could quilt. We always enjoyed her company and admired her quilting skills. I'm sure the family has many examples of her work to enjoy for years to come.

So very sorry for your loss!

Cindy, Jamie, Diana, Rob, Marcia and Shane - I want you to know that my heart truly hurts for you and your whole family. May all the memories of your mom and the love you share help you through this difficult time. She was a special person! Please know that Mitch and I are here for if you need anything!
