Kenneth Edward Wood

July 20th, 2020

It is with grief and regret that we announce the passing of Kenneth Edward Wood until recently of Irricana, Alberta.  Ken leaves behind his wife, Elaine (nee Osborne); children, Tony (Heidi), Dawn (Dieter), Richard, Chris (Liz), Amanda (Ted), Jenna (Matt); grandchildren, William, Courtney, Rachel, Mya, Marcy, Grace, Parker, Alysha, Dawson; and brothers, John (Kathy), Paul (Franca); and many more cherished extended family members and friends.  Ken was predeceased by his parents, Joan and Monty; his brother, Leslie; and his son in law, Brent.

Ken was born February 18, 1946 in England and spent time both there and in Canada while growing up.  At 18, Ken enlisted  in the Canadian Army where he was stationed at Chilliwack, BC and then served in Germany.  After leaving the army he returned to England where he met and married his wife of 50 years Elaine and where the first two of their six children were born.  Upon moving back to Canada in the mid 70’s, Ken entered the steel industry in Ontario as a welder.  The family then moved to Calgary in the early 80’s where Ken continued in the trade until the recession.  After some time with the Calgary Herald, Ken ultimately became an owner operator for Reimer, trucking until he retired at the age of 65.  He then continued to work part time for a few more years at Adesa which he truly enjoyed.

Ken loved his family, playing his guitar, watching movies and television, the CFL and Premier League Football, and spending time on the internet.  He particularly enjoyed Star Trek, science fiction in general, and the stellar work of Michael Pare (Sorry Dad!).  He had fronted the band Kenny Wood and the Paramounts, was a volunteer for the Boy Scouts and the Foresters.  Most of all though, he was a humble, funny, generous, and beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, cousin, uncle, and friend.  He will be deeply missed.

A Celebration of Life is being planned for a future date.
