Cornelius "Cory" Veldhoen

March 3rd, 2020

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Cory Veldhoen who passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 3,2020 at the age of 92. Cory was a wonderful man who always tried to leave a small imprint where he tread, but a large impression on the lives he touched. He will be lovingly remembered by his daughter, Laurie (Lyn); his son, Don (Sheila), four grand-children, and nine great-grand-children. The lack of his presence on the bike paths of Calgary, and the highway and lesser roads west of the city is perhaps already noted, but not felt, so strong was his love of bicycling along them; and that empty seat at the slow-pitch games may well on occasion be occupied by his spirit; enjoying the sunshine, the friendship among the spectators, and the competition on the field. His charming smile, cheerful greeting to each and all he encountered, and acts of kindness to neighbours, friends, and sometimes complete strangers are now gone forever, but will not be forgotten.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Agape Hospice for their kindness in caring for our father during his last few days of his life.

A informal Celebration of Cory’s Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Cancer Society would be gratefully accepted.

Messages:

Cory will be forever missed. Always had a kind word & big smile for everyone he met and was happy to embrace his “extended family” through baseball. Many happy memories of those baseball days & celebrations over the years. Love & hugs to the whole family.
