Alexander Ellsworth Kurulok

November 16th, 2020

We are sad to announce the passing of our beloved brother, Alexander, on Monday, November 16, 2020 at the Foothills Hospital, Calgary, Alberta.

Alexander was born in Canora, Saskatchewan to Isaac and Lena (Kraynick) Kurulok. Al spent his early years growing up on the farm near Stenen, where he enjoyed playing baseball, fishing with his dad and uncle, working on the farm, and taking adventurous trips with his friends on the neighbouring farm. After graduating from high school Al eventually settled on a job as Postal Carrier in Calgary, with Canada Post, a position Al loved because he was out of doors, and enjoyed meeting and knowing the people he served.

In 1962 Al married Joyce West, of Strathmore. They loved to travel, throughout Canada, by car and by train, through Europe, the U. S. and took an Alaskan cruise. Although they had no children of their own, they showered their love on the families of their brothers and sisters. Al and Joyce were always up for short adventures and longer journeys with friends and family.

After the passing of his beloved wife Joyce, Al filled his time being chauffer for others, always generous with his time, good natured, never complaining about life, and accepting of all that came his way. Al’s same considerate manner had him settle his affairs before his own passing brought on by cancer.

Left to cherish Alexander’s memory is his sister, Shirley (Lloyd) Widenmaier; brother, Gregory, (Chris) Kurulok; nephews and nieces, Darren Widenmaier, (Annika Card), Kevin (Angela) Widenmaier and family, Jennifer Kurulok (Garrett) Gregoraschuck and family, Stephanie Kurulok (Michael Beart) and family; sister in law, Barb Kisby; brothers-in-law, Alan (Gerta) West, Larry (Pat) West; and seventeen nieces and nephews of the West families.

Alexander was predeceased by his parents, Isaac and Lena Kurulok; his wife, Joyce; and in-laws, Morris and Grace West, Dick (Norma) West, Laurel Norbury, Roger West, William Kisby, Sharon Kisby (Doug Brack), Kimberly, great niece.

At Alexander’s request, there will be no service.  Interment of cremated remains will occur in the summer.

RIP my dear friend...you will be greatly missed.

Sending condolences to Shirley and family from Shirley, Jeannette & Arnold - I was reminded of the many visits we had and fun we shared in our earlier days in Calgary, AB, take care all, may he and Joyce rest in peace, eternal memory - Shirley K

We wish to extend our condolences to the many other members of Uncle Al's extended family. There are two other surviving in-laws on the West side - my mother Betty West (Roger West) and Uncle George Norbury (Laurel West/Norbury) We have so many fond memories of years of family reunions, card games and visits. We dearly loved our aunts and uncles. Uncle Al, to us, we called endearingly "Cigar Al". He has left us blessed to have known him.
