Joseph "Alan" Johnson

November 23rd, 2020

Joseph “Alan” Johnson passed away peacefully Monday, November 23, 2020 in Calgary at the age of 86 years.

Al will be lovingly remembered by his four children, Alana (Cliff), Douglas (Tracy), Sherri (Andrew) and Terri. Al was a loving grandfather to eight children: Janet (Klyment), Christopher (Niovi), Kevin (Elyse), Sarah (Jon), Syrena (Matt), Cameron, Nikki (Benny), and Macaulay (Olivia): and great grandfather of two children, Maydsen and Ryder. As well he will be missed by numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Kathleen in 2017.

Al was born in High River, Alberta on April 6, 1934 to Clair and Mildred Johnson. At an early age he discovered his love for golf, and it stayed with him for the remainder of his life. He grew up living in Royalties area by Longview/Turner Valley and finished school in Calgary. It was in Calgary 1955 that he met the love of his life Kathy. They married in October 1965 and enjoyed 60 years of wedded bliss. Of course, Kathy learned to golf!

They raised their family in Calgary where he worked for many years as an Oil and Gas Accountant with Gulf Oil. He maintained a golf membership at the Turner Valley Golf and Country Club where he dedicated numerous hours to the beterment of golf and helped organize tournaments. There were many good years golfing with Kathy, friends and family at that course.

After retirement from Gulf, he consulted for a few years doing audits, until finally his “young bride” was ready for retirement. It was at that time Al and Kathy invested in a home in Helmet, California where they could golf all winter long. They joined the long line of snowbirds from Canada and made the trip for 16 wonderful years.

Due to Covid restrictions a funeral is not being planned and a Celebration of Life will be held in the near future.

In Lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to Breathe the Lung Association Alberta and NWT www.ablung.ca.
