William Donald Gibson

November 1st, 2020

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of William Donald Gibson (Don), 76, at his home in Calgary, after a brief illness.

Don was born in Hanna, AB, on December 31, 1943. Son of the late business pioneer of Delia, Alberta, William Gibson and Moyra Gibson (Warke). He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Martha Gibson (Primo de Rivera); his sisters, Wilma, Norah and Freddie and their families; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was predeceased by his brother, Bob Gibson; and sister, Muriel Gillespie.

Don graduated from Mount Royal College in Calgary, and later continued his educational studies at the University of Alberta in Edmonton. Don went on to teach at the Clover Bar Junior High School in Sherwood Park.

Anyone who met Don could not forget his infectious passion for educational travel. Don moved to Calgary and founded Rainbow Educational Tours and sent thousands of students on educational travels to many destinations around the world.

For many years, Don was an active member of the Optimus Club and the Optimus International Foundation where he worked diligently in programs for the benefit of the youth.

As per Don’s wishes, there will be no Funeral Service. A private family Memorial Service will be held at a later date. If so desired, donations in Don’s memory may be made to the MEOW Foundation, 35 Skyline Crescent NE, Calgary, AB, T2K 5X2.
