Elmer Jacob Gerbrandt

November 6th, 2020

The Gerbrandt family is sad to share the news of Elmer Gerbrandt’s passing on Friday, November 6th, 2020.  Elmer passed away peacefully at home, there with his loving wife, Adelina, of 54 years.

Elmer was born in Herbert, Saskatchewan March 15, 1944.  His career as a western Canada sales representative with Dairyland/Saputo Foods took him and his family to Alberta and BC. Airdrie was home for the last 26 years.

Elmer’s passions included working on old cars, time with family and friends, watching the Saskatchewan Roughriders, old country music, as well as a perfect lawn and the challenge of fixing things, including computers in his later years.  Elmer grew up in an era when everything and anything had a use and could be fixed.  In his mind, there was no need to buy something new – there was nothing he couldn’t repair.  He said if someone else could figure it out so could he.  He carried on his father’s tradition of being the go-to man for tools and repairs whether or not it was something simple or challenge that would keep him occupied for days on end.

Elmer loved his family.  His youngest granddaughter, Reece, wanted to add that grandpa loved giving everybody things, in her case, he gave her lemon cakes to put a sparkle in her eye.  His children remember him at Christmas, getting up even earlier then them to get the festivities started.  He loved having family and friends over for a happy hour drink accompanied by good food.  In these last months during COVID, the garage door was always open, inviting people to stop by for a visit and a laugh.

Elmer is survived by his wife, Adelina; daughter, Roxanne (Blair) Brodie; sons, Sheldon (Ben) and Jayme (Shannon); his cherished grandchildren, Nate, Rossi and Reece; his sister, Verna (Kelvin) Berg; brother, Gordon (Mary); sisters and brothers-in-law, Ron and Alice Schultz and Richard and Sharon Solberg; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Elmer is predeceased by his father, Jake, mother Margaret; sister, Jeanie; as well his mother and father-in-law, Nels and Agatha Solberg.

Elmer will be missed by his family and all who knew him.  He had many friends, including his life long buddies from Saskatchewan.

Messages:

My dear friend Adelina, I really don't know what the right words to say are other than saying I admire the fact that you and Elmer had so many wonderful years of marriage, albeit there were good and bad days but you carried on. You were a great couple, I will always remember the fun we had when we were all together in Hawaii, when Elmer talked about pink work and blue work. I hope and pray you and your family will enjoy sharing your memories to keep Elmer alive in your hearts. Sincere condolences, thoughts and prayers to all of you. Just call anytimen if you need someone to talk to or cry with, I am here for you.

My deepest condolences Adelina and family. I worked under Elmer at Dairyworld. Where he taught me to never be afraid to challenge up. He truly was a sincere person and cared for his staff and loved his family. He also loved a good joke or gag. His home was open to all those he knew, I will never forget the time my vehicle broke down and my cousin was willing to work on my vehicle but it was so cold out, Elmer said come to our house we have a heated garage you can pull in and he can fix it inside, and you know that Elmer was helping fix my van while I had tea with Adelina. I have only great memories of this Man! He will be missed

My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Elmer will be lovingly remembered as a great co-worker and friend. I have many fond memories and laughs shared with Elmer.

We should just like to give our condolences to Elmer’s family. I worked with Elmer for a number of years when he was in the Grocery Division for Dairyland and later Dairyworld. Elmer was always very supportive and helpful when I was a new Sales Representative learning the ropes. He will be missed. Regards, Ian Tott
