 September 23, 1939 - January 25 2020

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Allan Fraser at the age of 80 years after a sudden cancer diagnosis. He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Nancy, of 37 years; his children, James (Liz), Tim, Chris, Amy (Joe) Robson, Colin, Sheldon, Alana (Jarrett) Harbidge; 7 grandchildren; brother, Cecil (Pamela); step-mom, Izora Fraser; cousins, Dianne Campbell and family and Jim Fairweather. Allan was born in Montreal, QB. Allan and his family lived in several places in the US, before settling in Symon’s Valley with his grandparents James and Jamesina Fairweather. He began farming at a young age and continued that as his passion and life’s work. He also had a passion for flying and sailing, and kept his private pilot’s license. He was active in many organizations throughout his life, to name a few; Rockyview Gas Co-op, Hail Suppression Board, Vice Chair of the Alberta Feeder Association, Agriculture and Food Council, and most recently Chair of the Board of the Balzac United Church.

Sincere appreciation to the first responders from Crossfield and Carstairs who assisted with his care. Also a sincere thank you to the staff at the Foothills Medical Centre who provided excellent and compassionate care. A celebration of Allan’s life will be held on Saturday, February 8 at 1:00pm, at the Crossfield Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Balzac United Church.

Messages:

Oh dearest Nancy and family. I’m so sorry for your loss. Allan was my “horsey” Dad for years. What a positive influence he made in my life and through many tough decisions. You are both so dear to my heart. I’m sorry I wasn’t able to go. Ken went in our behalf and as a family we send prayers and love. I’m here if you need me. Rachelle and family

My greatest sympathies to you Nancy. He was a great man and if I miss him I can only imagine your heartache. There is comfort in knowing where he has gone. We had so many great conversations over the many years we boarded horses with Allan and Nancy. Those conversations were always too short. I looked forward to the day where we could sit around a campfire and tell stories. If I had a breakdown, Allan was one of those people I knew I could call at 2 am, and ask for help, and he would be there. Allan was special because he made everyone feel special. I will really miss him. Until we meet again.

We only met Allan and Nancy in the past few months when we left our mare in their care. It was evident that Allan was a caring and compassionate gentleman and I wish we'd known him longer. Sincere condolences to Nancy and family.

A wonderful friend, neighbor and person. Miss you every day when i walk the pens and check horses. I know your family, friends and neighbors miss you. I do too. I miss your sense of humor and wisdom. God bless your family and Nancy. Till we meet again.

An amazing soul who shall be greatly missed. Rest In Peace Allan.

Dear Nancy and family, Extremely sad news. We did not have the chance to see each other often over the last few years but Allan was always in our hearts. He was a very charismatic person, always smiling and talking to everyone, even to strangers in the elevator! We feel privileged that our paths have crossed. Our deepest sympathy to you Nancy and all the family.

Many fond memories of Allan

I am so saddened to hear of the sudden passing of your wonderful husband and father. I first met Allan when we were searching for a minister for our church and Allan acted as a liaison at our meetings. He was so kind and always had a smile and kind word to say. Anytime I ran into him after those meetings he would always acknowledge me with a nod “hello” and a ready smile. May you feel God’s loving arms wrapped snuggly around you all as you work your way through this difficult time. I am so sorry for your loss. ❤️

Nancy, I am so sorry to hear of your husband's passing. This is a sudden and tragic loss and we were shocked and saddened by this news. If there is anything we can do, please let us know. Sarah Central Health

Nancy and Family- We send our condolences and love to you all. Allan shone a bright light, we met and attended many annual Christmas Parties at the Rydl's - we were fast friends - It was always a joy to visit with Allan and catch up on all the events in our lives also to share a good story or two with him. Allan will be fondly remembered and missed as a good friend.

I am deeply saddened to hear of Allan’s passing. He was a wonderful man who always had a smile and a laugh. I always remember dancing with him at my sisters wedding. My deepest sympathies to you Nancy and your family.

It’s a long story, how we met. All the hours that were spent at SageHill and then Crossfield. All the wonderful times Sarah had riding her “Million Dollar horse” ( Allan’s name for her) Beauty! All the times I rode and visited, all the Grandkids that rode our Beauty and were welcomed with enthusiasm. And that after Beauty em was gone, our friendship continued. We will miss you, along with so many other people. Our heartfelt Sympathy to Nancy, who lost her live and life partner, and all the family.

Allan was such an amazing person. He brought out my "inner cowgirl". Taught me how to build a fence left handed, guard the gate and count the cows. And best of all to stay true to my word. I will miss you always my dear brother in law. Happy to know we will meet one day again on that heavenly shore.

I’m so sad about Allan’s passing. But you know he’s with Jesus and has never been more alive. And Nance, you will see him again. I’m glad you have great children who love and support you and will help you through the hard times. If we can do anything for you, let us know. Keep looking up! We love you.

Allan was more than a friend! He always made time to make me feel special, he was never too busy and he was always there! I will miss him.

This is such sad news. Allan was a bright light on this earth. He always brought cheerfulness, kindness, patience and a strong work ethic to do things the right way, even if it took more time or effort. I admired him a lot. Love and hugs to Nancy and family.

I would like to send my condolences to Nancy and her family. Allan was such a wonderful, caring and knowledgeable man. Anyone who had the luck to meet him would say the same. Very lucky to have known him and Nancy and be there neighbors.

Mostly I will miss his kind words of wisdom and his never ending smile, always seeing the brighter side of things. My sympathy goes to the family and many many friends.

I got to know Allan because I board my horses at his place. He was always there to greet me with a big smile, and a chat. Very kind and sweet man. Also willing to help me out when needed. I’m going to really miss our talks. My condolences to Nancy and the family.

Our prayers and thoughts are with you! He made the room sparkle when he walked in-such a genuinely kind man with a smile that showed it!

My love and thoughts are with your entire family at this time. I am so glad you can be together to console and comfort one another. Allan will clearly live on through everyone he has impacted, and that is a precious gift he has given so many as I can see from the posts already. I will continue to send my love and prayer to you all every day.

I vividly recall the first time I met Nancy and Allan, the place I was keeping my horse was getting out of boarding and they suggested Flying U so I set up an appointment to visit.  I drove up the neatly manicured drive, saw the well kept farm and was greeted enthusiastically by the Bright Spirit of Nancy.  She welcomed me into their home with a hug, sat me down at the kitchen table and served  me fresh made cookies, chocolate chip and oatmeal (because she didn't know which I would like) and lemonade.   She asked me about my story,  then told me about hers,  how she met and married Allan.  She gave me a tour of the farm and all I could think was that she was wonderful,  the farm looked fantastic and I was really hoping that the man who would care for my beloved horse would live up to the rest.  We walked up to him and Nancy introduced us,  as soon as I saw his kind gentle face break into a huge sunny smile I knew that I could trust him with Manji's life.   They welcomed me to the Flying U family and I am very honored to call them friends.   People love them, animals love them,  I never saw either without a smile on their faces and a kind word to say.  My heart breaks for the loss of Allan and I send love and condolences to the family,  I miss his sweet gentle soul.

Dear Nancy and family, our deepest sympathy to you all.May you find peace and strength at this sad time. We will always remember Allan and his big smile and his kindness . A wonderful man!

Allan, the ultimate gentleman. Always kind. Always smiling. Generous in deeds and kind words. He will be deeply missed.

Dear Nancy and Family, I will remember Allan fondly and the great care he gave my horse's Pal, Cinder and Kia @ Sage Hill. My love, thoughts and Prayers are with you all. Anne

Allan Fraser was a very positive role model for me as a boy and young man. He expanded my love of the land and livestock with his considerable knowledge. My first paid work was for Allan which he offered in kindness, I wasn’t very useful but his warm patience taught me many lessons. With a knowing smile and continual wit he offered me many solid life lessons I’m ever grateful for. Martin

Thinking if all of the Fraser family in this sad time. Please know The Nagle family sends a lot of love and condolences. XOXOX Andrea, Dave and Olivia

He was an amazing man who had tea with the queen. He had a wealth of knowledge as it related to ranching, cattle and horses. I don't think there was anything he didn't know. Allan truly loved what he did and it showed in the care and attention he gave to his crops, cattle and horses he cared for. I remember him walking around an old mare who had seriously hurt her leg. By all rights most horse folks would not have spent the time helping her to walk again. Allan gave months of daily one on one therapy to Beauty who made a full recovery and was able to use that leg again. This shows the character he had. I remember Marcia and Gary the calves he named. Marcia who he helped get her leg cast when her mum stepped on her and broke it. Gary who was pulled out during birth head first. He was a man to be admired and who provided a bright light to all that knew him. He never gave up. Always found a solution. He was always happy and willing to help others. He is a true cowboy who followed the cowboy way. Rest in peace my friend. All my love and hugs to his family who are missing him dearly.
