Sharon Gay Levinson, née Lutes

April 1, 1945 – September 1, 2018

It is with tremendous sadness that we announce the passing of Sharon Levinson. Sharon was born and raised in Medicine Hat, Alberta. Sharon married Ralph Levinson on August 17, 1963. Sharon and Ralph had known each other since kindergarten and enjoyed 55 years of marriage that saw the birth of three children; Brent, Andrea, and Joel. Sharon died in Ralph’s arms - the love of her life.

Early in their life together, Sharon earned a Diploma from the Toronto Conservatory of Music. She supported the family as a piano teacher in their early years. Sharon graduated from the Alberta College of Art with a Diploma in the Visual Arts. In addition to being a painter, Sharon had a long and varied business career including as a retail store manager, Xerox sales executive, and finally as a Certified Financial Planner with Investors’ Group. After retiring in 2011, Sharon and Ralph enjoyed their garden and traveling the world together. They visited all the provinces of Canada, most countries in Europe, most states in the US, Australia and New Zealand and the Caribbean and Mexico. Sharon and Ralph lived in Calgary, Santa Barbara, and Tucson, and was a resident of Airdrie for over 40 years.

Sharon deeply valued her family and friends and could always be counted on to be there for support. She was a generous friend and made the community a better place to live.  Sharon was the Board Chair of the Airdrie Library Board and was instrumental in the creation of the Airdrie Judo Club.

Sharon is lovingly remembered by her husband, Ralph; and son, Brent (Trish) Levinson and his step-children Bethany (Jeff) Schuetzle and Logan (Jamie) Pritchard and 3 great grand step-children (Claire, Corbin, Kendall) of Bismarck ND; son, Joel (Tami) and grandchildren Quinn and Kai in Victoria, BC.; siblings: Bernice Gaetz, Mervyn Lutes, Eugene Lutes and Ken Lutes and their families.

Sharon was predeceased by her infant daughter Andrea and her sister Norrine Ross.

The family extends their sincerest gratitude to the caregivers at Dulcina Hospice where Sharon spent the last four months of her life. Sharon’s friends and family and the Duclina caregivers, both staff and volunteers, and have been a tremendous loving support, extending kindness, caring, and encouragement during long and very difficult time.

I met Sharon in the early 80s when I was a part of her larger family. In addition to her being warm and welcoming I was also very inspired by her art and advise relative to a career as an artist. That advise has served me well. She was also my trusted financial advisor for many years. She was thorough, very skilled and extremely easy to talk to.
