Florence Shirley Fyke

February 21st, 2018

Florence Shirley Fyke (nee Warman) went to be with her Saviour on February 21, 2018 at the age of 83 years. Shirley was born in Calgary, Alberta on January 3, 1935.  She lived most of her life in Calgary and raised her children there.  Shirley worked for Parks Canada in downtown Calgary until retiring due to severe rheumatoid arthritis. She lived in her present home until her passing.  Shirley’s favourite pastime was doing crossword puzzles and her favourite activities were attending her church and spending time with her friends.  She had a strong faith which carried her through the physical pain she had experienced for many years.  She loved her children dearly and taught them, through example, to love unconditionally.  Shirley was a huge Toronto Blue Jays fan and enjoyed watching their games on TV.  She was also a big fan of Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy.  If you called during any of these programs, you might not receive an answer to your call!

Shirley was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by her sisters, Lorna Lynn Raines and Gwen

Ulry; children, Jackie Fyke, Larry Fyke, Lynne Fyke and Wade Fyke, grandchildren, Niki Millar (Mike), Jason Wakeford and Jasmine Ancona (Nick);  two great grandchildren, Paige Millar and Milania Ancona and many close friends will also mourn Shirley’s passing. Shirley was predeceased by her parents, Rex and Florence Warman; her son, Robert and her daughter, Sandra.

A Memorial Service will be held at her church, Abbeydale Christian Fellowship, 1352 Abbeydale Dr. SE, Calgary, on March 3, 2018 at 2:00 pm.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Abbydale Christian Fellowship, Community Cupboard Program.  A private family inurnment will take place on a later date.

Messages:

My dearest Lynne. I know how much you loved and cared for your Mom. I hope you always remember the love the two of you shared and that it brings you some solace at this very sad time.

Dear Gwen - I'm so sorry to read about your sister, Shirley. I remember her when I was a kid - just how kind she was to me. As you share the stories and the memories of how she lived her life and how very much she meant, may you find comfort - and, throughout this difficult time, may you also know the deep sympathy and concern that is felt for you and all of your family. Know that I am thinking of you ...

Our sincere condolences to our dear friend Lynne and all of Shirley’s family.

Sincere condolences from Maura and I and on behalf off my mother Wynn. My mum who turned 93 in January was very fond of Shirley and they kept in touch until a few years ago. My Mum's memory is not very good but she remembered Shirley when I showed her the obit. Our families have not kept in touch over the years but the memories are still there. As a kid, I remember Robert and Jackie and Larry and Lynne. Not sure that I ever met Wade. I wish you all well and am very sorry that your mum has passed on. Sincerely Barry Swan

Shirley Flyke was always a positive cheerful person despite having numerous health problems. She took an interest in the people she met and always remembered things about you when you stopped in for your next visit. She was sharp until the end and this certainly teaches us a great deal about living life to the fullest and not let sickness get you down.
