EILEEN GAIL COLE (nee Harmatski)
July 22, 1957 – July 13, 2018

It is with very heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of their beloved, dear Eileen, aged 60. She passed away much sooner than expected at the Hospital in Didsbury, Alberta, with family at her side. Eileen was brave, strong and did not show any self-pity throughout her 3 month battle with cancer.

Eileen leaves to mourn, her husband Melvin of 39 years, along with their children, Darcy (Denise), Travis (Lindsay) and Justin (Alycia); mother, Helen; sisters and brothers, Ernie, Ervin (Cindy), Val (Ivan), Lynn, Shelley and Gary; grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins; aunties and uncles; in-laws and friends. She was predeceased by her father John and brother Lawrence.

Eileen was born and raised in Dauphin, MB to parents John and Helen Harmatski. There she met Melvin at the age of 15 and married at 20.  Eileen and Mel raised their boys in Winnipeg, MB until 1996, then made their move to Alberta where they lived in Calgary before moving to Cochrane and then Airdrie.

Eileen was a very adventurous woman who always wanted to be doing something. She loved to travel, quilting and dogs.  She was a curious woman who would always be researching something.  She loved her and Mel’s lake property at Koocanusa, BC where they have shared countless, precious memories with friends and family.  It was a place of such serenity for Eileen.

She was always such an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, auntie and friend and would always selflessly do anything for other people before herself. She was an amazing listener and a great conversationalist and would always encourage you to do your best.  She will be remembered for her amazing smile and sense of humor.

Our sincerest thanks to the staff and doctors of the Peter Lougheed Centre, Calgary, AB who provided such good care during her one month stay and the staff and doctors at the Didsbury Hospital.

Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Mass will be held Monday, July 30 at 10:00 AM at St Mary’s Parish, 10 River Heights Dr, Cochrane, AB T4C 1B3. Messages of condolence may be left for the family at www.myalternatives.ca located in Airdrie, Alberta.
