Gordon George Symington

December 7th, 2012

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father and grandfather, Gordon George Symington.

He will be lovingly remembered by his former wife and best friend Helga of 40 years, daughters Kim Symington, Shauna (Tom) Neid, grand-daughters Cassandra Haberlin, Jessica Haberlin (Ryan) and 2 wonderful Great-Grandsons whom he cherished and adored, Koden (8) and Daylon (1). He is also survived by his brothers Don (Edna) Symington, Willie (Joanne) Symington, sister in-law Bernice (Bob) Symington, as well as many nieces, nephews and a great many dear friends.

Gordon is preceded by his mother Luella; father Alfred, brother Robert (Bob) and sister Rita and most recently his best buddy “Oliver Maxwell Symington” who sadly passed away July 13, 2012.

He spent the majority of his life as a longshoreman on the New Westminster waterfront from which he retired in 1997.  He was recognized as the “Senior Man with the most experience”.  He also started companies such as “Centre City Electric” while working full-time at the Prince George Airport and part-time for Black Pine Heaters. He also worked as a wide load pilot car driver in the lower mainland for “Apache Pilot Cars” which he became sole owner of in 2002 until he fell ill in 2005.

As a father, husband, brother, uncle and friend there was a most generous and warm hearted person beneath that underlying tough exterior of a man. As his daughters there were times we thought he steered us wrong but what he actually did was steer us strong. Because of him we’ve learned our independence, survival, hope and faith. He will be greatly missed by many and never forgotten.

We would like to express our sincerest gratitude to Dr. Freedman, the entire staff at the Salvation Army Buchanan Lodge whom were very caring and compassionate, as well as the staff at the Royal Columbian Hospital who assisted our father in the earlier stages of his illness.

You are invited to leave a personal message of condolence for the family.
