David Lorne Salmond

December 20th, 2023

David "Lorne" Salmond, age 84, passed away December 20, 2023, at Ellen Kennet Lodge of White Rock, B.C.

His family was deeply saddened by his death although it came after a lengthy, agonizing 14-month long hospital/care home stay. His wife of 52 years, Elaine, was by his side daily and upon his passing. He was born in Courtenay, B.C.  in 1939.

Lorne is also survived by his sister Joan Simons of Victoria B.C., her son Gordon Simons (Shelly) and their family of Victoria, B.C., and many extended family and friends.

In 1962 Lorne came from Victoria to Vancouver to begin his studies as a Chartered Accountant, articling with the Roy Shand, Permain firm.  After several years of study he became, as a lifelong career, a Controller and CFO of a group of private logging companies. He enjoyed this fully. He had a keen mind and knew serial numbers on many massive machines without looking them up.  He could solve accounting problems for his staff with ease.  He had many outrageously humorous logging stories occurring in the industry during his time there.

Lorne was known to dot his conversations with "Lorne-isms", which were made up original funny words of his own, of which there were many.  He was an avid sports fan as well.  His humour and direct opinions were experienced by all.  At the time of his passing Lorne quietly expressed deep love for his wife, his friends, his work, his church and overall, his Lord.

A memorial will be held in the Spring. Family and friends will be notified.

Messages:

Lorne was one of the most interesting people I have ever met. He could intelligently communicate on so many different subjects from business to sports. When I was 14 years old, I lost my father to an airplane crash. It was Lorne who drove to Tsawwassen to take me to B.C. Lions games and Canuck games through my teenage years. When I entered the financial business as a young man, he gave me business and introductions that helped develop my career in the financial industry. He was kind and we had great conversations, right or wrong he was never in doubt :-) I will miss him greatly and our White Spot breakfasts down through the last 30 years. He is suffering no more, and I look forward to seeing him again in Heaven.

My heartfelt condolences to Elaine, and to Lorne's family, for the passing of a great guy I enjoyed many bible studies with Lorne, at the group, between 2009 & 2017, plus many other activities such as reading the multitudes of magazines at Mayfair News on Broadway & Granville, checking out a MoPar car show in Langley, dinners with both Elaine & Lorne, bible study group extracurricular activities, talking on the phone (almost a lost art these days) and just simply talking about whatever subjects of discussion were relevant at any given time. He'll be missed but I know we'll have coffee & treats, soon again, at the great diner beyond the skies (in the Glory Land as Lorne would often call it). -Geo

Hi Elaine Our deepest sympathy to you and your family. I met Lorne at the CIBC on Broadway and Birch when he was working for the logging company and then at the Alliance Church. Lorne is now with the Lord.
