PAULSON, Ruth Isabel

September 3, 2022

Ruth Isabel Paulson (nee Johnson) passed away peacefully at the age of 89 on Saturday, September 3, 2022 at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary, Alberta. She is lovingly remembered by her children, Julie (Jim) Selinger, Marilou van Hal, and Jim (Shauna) Paulson; her grandchildren, Stephen (Danielle) Selinger, Rachel (Christian) Eichmann, Natalie van Hal, Matt Paulson, Luke van Hal, Tyler Paulson and Katie Paulson; great granddaughter, Hailey Selinger; as well as nieces and nephews, and other relatives. She was predeceased by her parents, siblings, beloved son-in-law, Dan van Hal, and other loved ones.

"Ruthie" was born in Neilburg, Saskatchewan on May 28, 1933 and grew up on a farm, the youngest of 10 children in total. She spent her last years of high school at Prairie Bible Institute in Three Hills, Alberta, went on to secretarial school, and eventually moved to Calgary. Ruth married Philip Paulson in August 1957 and they had 3 children together in 4 years. They separated in the early 1970s and Ruth became a single parent. A job that started at British American Oil in Calgary, saw her move steadily up the ranks until the last position she held before retiring at the age of 54 was Retirement Benefits Co-ordinator for Petro Canada.

Ruth liked to do crossword puzzles (the harder the better!) and to cook and bake for people. She would put on beautiful parties for special occasions, especially at Christmas. She loved to spend time with all her family, especially her grandchildren, and more recently her little great-granddaughter. Her faith in Jesus was a constant throughout her life.

Over the years Ruth battled many serious health issues, but still lived on her own in her Calgary condo until the fall of 2021, when she moved to a long-term care facility. There will be a private burial held on Saturday, Sept 24, 2022 at the Airdrie, Alberta Cemetery.
