Messages:

How many adults today use “Favourite teacher: Miss Hawkes “ in their security passwords!? I am 76 years old and still remember her wise words and high standards. My friends and I often speak of her. We had her as a teacher in elementary at S Wilfred Grenfell and then she followed us to Gladstone- were we lucky! I am a little late leaving a comment but not to late to let it be known-she won’t be forgotten

Zia and Madeleine were long time friends introduced to me by my friend Elaine. Had many fun visits in their home (with the birds) and in Kauai. Glad they are now together and with Jesus. Marsha

I remember with pleasure English lessons with Miss Hawkes at Rupert's Land School in Winnipeg. I am sure that she went on to be an excellent teacher and friend to many people.

Please accept Terry's and my condolences. Zia was a wonderful friend and a great mentor in my early years of teaching. When Zia and Madeleine moved to their condo, we grew even closer as we were now neighbours, looking after each other's places when off on vacation. Some of my fondest memories of Zia are having tea together, meeting in Hawaii, having breakfasts at the Secret Garden, and our visits at Amherst as we recalled happy times. I shall miss Zia, but I know that she is in a better place. Elaine mcGauley

Miss Hawkes was my grade 9 French teacher at Gladstone in 1963.She was a very patient and understanding lady.I remember when she was upset, which was rare she would say Zut Alors!!! God rest her sweet loving soul.

Zia & Madeleine were my neighbors when they lived in the same complex I still live in. I remember them fondly as they were always kind and comforting, They prayed with me many times for which I was very grateful. May they rest in peace now with their beloved Lord.
