Bernie Welk

September 20th, 2020

We miss our loving, cheerful Mom, Grandma and Great-Grandma already.

Bernie was born on a family farm in Saskatchewan in the dust bowl of the 1930’s. Even though she grew up in the depression, she always gave so generously to her family and many others, from a thankful heart unto the Lord. Living her adult life in British Columbia, she met and married Henry Welk and celebrated 61 years of marriage together. She is survived by 4 daughters and their husbands, 3 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and 2 brothers and sister-in-laws in the US and many nieces and nephews.

Bernie had many relatives and heartstrings tied to the Canadian prairies. A resourceful and wonderful homemaker, throughout the decades Bernie was known for creatively celebrating events and hosted literally hundreds of people in her homes. A friendly conversationalist, one of her favorite things was sharing a meal or tea along with a good visit. A generous listener and quick to offer help – she loved to help out with a plan. Her calculative mind parlayed into accounting jobs, drawing house plans, being an excellent seamstress, sewing many outfits for family and friends’ weddings, and serving in various ways in the churches her family attended.

After a stay in hospice, she got her wish and ‘went home to be with her Lord’.

May we live out the legacy of a thankful heart. We love you Mum.
