Jane Sullivan

January 10th, 2019

Jane was known for her kind, loving personality; as well her sense of humor and zest for life. She was a phenomenal Mother, Grandma, Daughter, Sister, Aunt, Friend, Boss and Colleague. She will be greatly missed in both her personal and professional life.

Jane was born in 1956 to parents James Stoy and Betty Standing. She is the third of six siblings.  Namely Martin (Delores), Robert, Kathy (Scott) , David and Robyn (Lorna). Jane is survived by her three daughters and five beautiful grandchildren. Nadine Flear and her Husband Ryan, as well as their two children Lincoln and Remy; Elizabeth (Liv) Collisson, Michelle Rentmeester as well as her Husband Ryan and their three children Ameya, Ryker and Paxton.

In Addition to raising three children, she was also best known throughout the community in respect to her work in local government. She began her career in Alberta working for both the Town of Olds and the County of Red Deer. In 1996 she moved West for a position as Administrative Manager for the Fraser Valley Regional District.  Jane then spent the last 12 years of her career as the City Clerk for the City of Surrey.

A small private gathering will be held in Jane's memory January 26th, 2019. As well, a memorial bench and tree will be placed in her memory with the location and details to follow, as soon as possible. The family asks in lieu of gifts or flowers, donations to be made to the BC Cancer foundation, in hope a cure can be found to prevent others from being taken to soon.

"Those we love don't go away, they walk beside us every day."

Messages:

Jane was my bright spot, my closest confidant and my best friend as our families faced the challenges of life in Northern Alberta, in Swan Hills. There wasn’t much to do up there, the winters were bitterly cold and the rest of the year we were surrounded by muskeg, bugs and bears. Jane introduced me to her weight room in their basement, where we lifted weights a couple of times a week. We took up running and we were both in the best shape, trim and feeling great. But what I remember most were the quiet times when we’d get together when the kids were in school....and we could chat about life. She always made me laugh. I know that now, somewhere, she’s having a laugh and making friends! I miss you my friend.

Janie treasured her daughters, her grandchildren, her family and her friends. Her Celebration of Life brought together her family and friends. Jane leaves us with wonderful memories to cherish and to hold onto.

Jane was a dear friend. We rode the bus to work together for the last few years until she sold her house and moved. We became good friends, she loved her grandchildren and talked about them often. I am so heartbroken, I will miss her.

I had the pleasure of working with Jane on a few projects over the years. She was warm, kind, and funny. She was such a talented woman, being able to juggle many balls without appearing to break a sweat! She will be missed by many of us, but I am glad to have had the opportunity to know her. Nina Joyce

It is so sad that we lost Jane.May her soul rest in peace.

I had the pleasure of meeting and knowing Jane through my limited by memorable interactions at the City of Surrey. To me, Jane was very friendly, caring, supportive and had tremendous candor and openness with those that she viewed as friends and trusted colleagues. She was a leader who led from the front. Jane was a really wonderful human being and someone you were happy to work with, at any time. I would like to send my heartfelt prayers and best wishes to Jane's family for peace and comfort during this very difficult time. In loving memory, Stan

Your mama was an amazing lady, and I feel privileged to have known her. I know you will miss her deeply. I'll be keeping you and your family in my thoughts and prayers. Heaven needed a hero. With caring thoughts, Sophie

During the 10 years I worked with Jane, I have known her to always be cheerful, helpful, and positive irrespective of the circumstances. She was a wonderful colleague and I will sincerely miss her. My thoughts are with you and your family.

I worked with Jane for just over 8 years and she was always a pleasure to deal with. I appreciated her knowledge base and knew I could rely on her for help or to answer questions. We were working on a project last year she really wanted to finish up - she was looking forward to getting it completed so as I continue to work on it I think of her and hope I'll be able to complete her wish soon! We miss Jane already - our condolences to her friends and family.

Jane was a rare individual who lit up a room when she came in. She inspired respect and admiration due to her unwavering integrity. It was a pleasure to work with Jane as she always made time for those who needed her advice - no matter how busy she always was. I will never forget her ability to combine light-hearted fun with serious (and sometimes maybe boring) work. She was a great leader and most importantly a good hearted and kind person. I recently lost my mother and I can only imagine how difficult this loss is for your family. I hope this and other messages give you a moment of light in a dark time, knowing that your loved one was universally respected and admired. I hope you can hold onto your good memories of Jane amidst your sadness at her loss. best wishes Phillipa

It was a pleasure working with you, Jane. I will never forget how wonderful you are over the phone and even more so, in person. Rest in peace, Jane +

Jane was a joy to work with - always cheerful, always helpful, always finding the time to sit down and provide aid or direction and so knowledgeable. If she didn't have the answer to a question, she'd find it in short order. Her absence leaves a vacuum at the City of Surrey. My deepest condolences go to her family and friends as they shoulder this loss.

My memories of Jane…. • First and foremost she was a gifted comic….someone who could lighten the mood with her infectious sense of humour….loved that about her! I always looked forward to a meeting with Jane regardless of the topic of discussion knowing there would be wise cracks and jokes that would brighten my day! • A true professional….was exceptional at her job, I relied on her expertise, advise and wisdom on many occasions over the years. • Empathetic and kind…..she understood people and was gracious in her dealings with everyone. I will sincerely miss Jane and my heart goes out to her family and friends.

My heart and prayers are with Jane's family. Jane was such a kind soul. She is greatly missed in all departments of the City. It's such an honour to have met her.

Oh my dear sweet Jane. I will miss your kind and open spirit. Always ready to provide advise when asked and ready with a giggle when needed. I will miss the plans we "almost" made for our retirement :( you have inspired me to take mine sooner than planned. I love and appreciate you sweet Jane.
