William G.(Bill) Clark

Bill was born in Trail, BC April 4, 1965 to Isabel and W.G. (Bill) Clark.  Coming from a long line of funeral directors, Bill is a fourth generation funeral director serving the community of Trail. Bill’s great grandfather William G. Clark, a cabinet maker, established Clark and Binn’s Undertakers in 1898, Trail, and today Bill Jr. is the managing partner of Alternatives Funeral & Cremation Services®, Trail.  Bill has two sons, Adam and Nathan.  He enjoys the outdoors including hunting, motorcycling, golf, skiing and time spent at Christina Lake.  Bill has served as President of the Trail Rotary Club, Greater Trail Retirement Housing Society and Christina Sands Estates Society as well as serving on numerous other community boards and clubs. He is currently Chair of the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital and Health Foundation, and a past Director of the Funeral Service Association of BC and Birchbank Golf Course.

Alexander (Al) Grywacheski

Al Grywacheski was born and raised in Canora, Saskatchewan. He apprenticed with Oneschuk Funeral home in Canora, Saskatchewan, obtaining his embalming and funeral director’s license, in 1993. Al, with his wife Cindy and their two children, moved to Trail in 1994 and he is pleased to be part of the Alternatives Funeral & Cremation Services® team.  Al is an avid hockey fan, proud grandfather and a member of the Knights of Columbus. Al is committed to providing the best possible funeral service to each family he serves.

Gwen Ziprick

Gwen Ziprick was born in Toronto, Ontario and later moved to the west coast to enjoy an outdoor oriented lifestyle.  After many life changing events she began her funeral services career in Vancouver, BC in 2007.  She and husband D’Arcy moved to Rossland in late 2011 to further their desire for a non-city lifestyle.  They enjoy skiing, mountain biking, running and spending time with their pets and gardens on their property.  They have 3 adult children; a son in the military and two daughters who also reside in Rossland.

Gwen feels blessed to have found the vocation of Funeral Directing, and particularly loves her role of Funeral Celebrant when given the opportunity.  She is an active Board member for both the Greater Trail Hospice and the Rossland Winter Carnival.    

Andreas Schmitz

Andreas Schmitz

Andreas was born in Switzerland and immigrated to Ontario in 1988 and grew up on his parents’ fruit and rose farm in Niagara-on-the-Lake Ontario. Andreas earned a Bachelor of Arts with Honours at Wilfred Laurier University where he majored in Contemporary Studies with minors in Philosophy and Anthropology.

Andreas visited British Columbia in 2011 to snowboard in the mountains and hasn’t left since. He traveled all around BC and has lived and worked in Golden, Campbell River, Squamish and Vancouver.

Andreas worked as a Licensed Apprentice Funeral Director in Vancouver and graduated as a fully Licenced Funeral Director from the Canadian Collage of Funeral Services in 2019.  

He now lives in Rossland with his two cats Rufus and Quincy. He enjoys snowboarding, mountain biking, hiking, archery, playing banjo and chess. 

Tracy Wicentowich

Office Manager

Tracy Wicentowich was born in New Westminster, British Columbia, and grew up & graduated High School in Cloverdale, BC. Shortly after graduation, Tracy moved to Nakusp where she spent 9 years; then moved to Vernon where her two children were born. Craving the small-town life, Tracy moved back to the Kootenays in 2008 and currently resides in Trail.

After choosing to stay at home and raising her children, she returned to school at the College of New Caledonia and graduated with an Applied Business Technology Certificate.

Tracy enjoys gardening, cooking and making improvements on her house and yard. Spending time with her children is the most important thing in Tracy’s life.

Building trust, confidence and good relationships with the families that our Alternatives team serves is especially important to Tracy. She helps with obituaries, designs memorial cards and manages the day-to-day operation of the office.

Tracy has been a valuable member of the Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Services® team since April 2011.

Alexandra Butts

Alexandra Butts

Alexandra Butts was born in Kitchener, Ontario and relocated as a child to Vancouver, BC. After graduating high school she moved to Alberta to follow a career in Animal Behavior.

Missing her family, and wanting to pursue a career in Funeral Service, Alexandra, along with her Albertan rescue dog Dax, moved to the West Kootenay area. She enjoys reading, hiking and four wheeling with her partner Glen and second rescue dog Boomer.

Alexandra feels honored to be given the opportunity to apprentice with Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Services®, and will be enrolling in the Apprenticeship Program in September 2015.

Holly Pender-Love

Certified Pre-Arrangement Counsellor

Holly has been our Certified Pre-Arrangement Counsellor (CPC designation) in the West Kootenays since 2011.  Holly travels throughout the region to meet families in Trail, Castlegar, Nelson, Nakusp and as far west as Grand Forks.

Always a “people person”, Holly has a B.Ed (elem) from UBC, has taught school and some college extension courses, was a realtor in both Calgary and Edmonton and even served in the Canadian Armed Forces as an Administration Officer.

Holly became involved in Pre-Arrangements when she purchased her own plan some years ago.  She believes strongly in supporting the family by making financial arrangements and end of life plans long before a death occurs.

She is available to speak publically in the West Kootenays regarding Advance Planning & Pre-Arrangements and the options offered, such as the World Wide Travel Plan & the Identity Theft Restoration Program, as well as help for your executor with Final Document Services.

James & Barb MacKay serve as Alternatives Funeral & Cremation Services® Advance Planning Representatives. James & Barb specialize in meeting families to present the importance and value of making final arrangements in advance of need.

They both know how planning ahead saves families the stress of making final arrangements after a death has occurred, both emotionally & financially.

James & Barb MacKay are long time residents of the West Kootenay region and have lived in both Nelson and Castlegar with their two children. They both enjoy all the amenities the West Kootenays offer including winter sports such as curling and skiing; and in the summer months, spending time at our region's beautiful lakes boating and waterskiing.
