Edward "Ed" Kornelius

February 11th, 2021

It is with great sadness that we announce the Passing into Glory of Edward (Ed) Kornelius on February 11, 2021 where he was reunited with his father, Doewe; mother, Hendrika; brother, John; as well as other dear friends and loved ones who had passed before him.  He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family members.

Ed was initially diagnosed with cancer in December 2019 and underwent bladder surgery in March of 2020 .  On January 18, 2021 he was back in the hospital once again where he was informed the cancer was back and was terminal.  On February 5, 2021 he returned home to spend his remaining time here on earth enjoying the company of his family and loved ones

Ed will be forever loved and missed by Joanne, his wife of 57 years; his children Diana (Jody), Dave (Angie), Susan (Keith) and Karen; his 7 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers; 3 sisters; numerous extended family; friends and acquaintances.

Ed will always be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and helpfulness.  He dedicated much of his life to helping and serving others.  He worked in a saw mill, was a dairy farmer, a bus driver for Abbotsford Christian Schools and more.  His volunteer work was numerous and included; a crossing guard for Abbotsford Christian Schools; Abbotsford Police Department - Citizens Patrol; Abbotsford Bibles for Missions Thrift Store; Trinity CRC Friendship Ministries; The River Community Church Stream Ministries; an usher at the Abbotsford Entertainment Center and also security at the Abbotsford Agrifair.  He raised thousands of dollars for charities dear to his heart like BC Bowls for Kids and many more.

Ed loved singing and spent many years singing with the Abbotsford Male Chorus and his church’s choirs.  Ed served as both an Elder and a Deacon at his church, Living Hope CRC.

Ed’s hobbies were golfing, bowling and playing pool with his family and friends.

The family wishes to extend thanks to all the staff at ARHCC for their care during Ed’s stays in the hospital.  Also, thank you to the Home Health Care nurses and care-aids and Just Like Family care-aids for their kindness and caring for Ed during his final days at home.

On March 1, 2021 there will be a graveside service attended by immediate family only.  This service will be recorded and a link will be available at:

A celebration of life will be considered at a later date once we are able to gather safely together.  In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to any of the causes that were so important to Ed.
