Evelyn Emma McSween

December 14th, 2021

We are saddened to announce the death of our dear Mom Evelyn Emma McSween (nee Billesberger) which occurred on Tuesday December 14 2021 at the age of 98 years.  We were richly blessed to have had Mom in our lives for so many years - all of which proved over and over to have been filled with wonderful memories that she helped bring about in her own unique way.  In particular Mom always had a way of making holidays, birthdays and special seasons seem that much better.  She brought a zest for life into even some of the darkest corners of ones’ experience with her comments to look at the positive in everything- “It Could Be worse”.  She exuded a perpetual youthfulness, grace and an interest in others.  She had worked at a variety of jobs over her many years but was perhaps remembered best by many as “the Lady from Eaton’s” (former Eaton’s Department Store at Park Royal Mall).  Evelyn was predeceased by parents Bernard (1974) and Elizabeth “Lizzie” (1982), and brothers Herbert (1944), Ernest 1993, Leander (2000) and sister Armella (1969), she was also predeceased by her husband Hugh (1981), and daughter Claire (1965).  She is already sadly and sorely missed by her loving family; her sons and daughters Murdoch (Gunilla), Leah, Colin (Patricia), Garth, Brian (Rebecca) and Mary-Ellen, 13 grandchildren Katie, Kyla (Joe), John, Lindsay, Jared (Shelby), Steven (Katie), Hannah, Jorin (David), Elizabeth (Justin),  Jaden (Emily), Alexandra (Noah), Murdoch and Mark, 2 great grandchildren Logan and Ewan, also sister-in-law Margaret and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and also her many friends at Holy Trinity Church and in the CWL.  Mom was active in many endeavors throughout her years in ways to support her family, her parish and her community.  She delivered Meals on Wheels for a number of years and even ice skated right up until the age of 80.  She played badminton and attended an exercise class right up until the time of her stroke on Dec. 9, 2016.   Mom always loved and had time for her family.  When she heard that she was going to be a great grandmother she said, “I can hang around for that.”  Her family are grateful for the wonderful care that Mom received at the Lynn Valley Care Center over the past 4 years with a special thank you to Raffi, Maritess and Elena for their loving care of Mom.  The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday December 20th at Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church 2725 Lonsdale Ave., at West 27th Street, North Vancouver with Rev. Father James Comey celebrant.   Interment will follow at a later date at Capilano View Cemetery, West Vancouver, B.C.

Messages:

Mary-Ellen and family, I was very sorry to hear about your Mother's passing. She was such an elegant and lovely lady. I remember meeting her on several occasions at the Karen Magnussen Rec Centre whenever she would come in with you. I also had the pleasure of her assistance at the Eaton's store in Park Royal several times, she greeted everyone with such a lovely smile and friendly manner. My deepest condolences.
