Elizabeth (Elsie) Zimmerman

October 12th, 2022

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, Elizabeth (Elsie) Zimmerman on October 12, 2022 at the age of 88.

Elsie was predeceased by her parents Peter and Mary Sorochan; and sister Patricia Jean (Patsy) Sorochan. Elsie is survived by her husband Alvin Zimmerman, sibling Anne Rolston, her children Kathy Zimmerman, Jeanne Zimmerman, David Zimmerman and Brenda Zimmerman that she loved and was so proud of; grandchildren Jillian Zimmerman, Jordan Zimmerman and Georgia Redmond that she loved dearly as well as extended family and friends. The family would like to thank the staff at Extendicare Sunset Long Term Care Facility, Regina, Saskatchewan for the special care given to our mother.

Elsie was born on April 15, 1934 in Regina, Saskatchewan the oldest daughter of three children, to Peter and Mary Sorochan. Elsie grew up in Regina and attended high school at Balfour Collegiate. After finishing her schooling, she accepted a position as a secretary with the Saskatchewan Government. On September 16, 1961 she married Alvin Zimmerman and together they had four children. Elsie decided to then be a stay-at-home mother and devoted herself to raising her four children and spending summers at Turtle Lake, Saskatchewan holidaying with her family. Once her children were grown, she was happy to return to work with the Saskatchewan Government – Energy & Mines. She enjoyed sewing her kid’s clothes and creating Barbie outfits, crocheting baby sized and full-sized blankets, and making Halloween costumes. She loved to grow huge vegetable and flower gardens and attracted the most hummingbirds at Turtle Lake. She loved elephants and had a large collection of elephant ornaments, trinkets, and jewellery. She deeply loved being a mom and grandma.

A Private Family Memorial Service will be held in Spring/Summer of 2023, in Elsie’s favorite place – Turtle Lake, Saskatchewan. In lieu of flowers, family and friends who wish to do so are welcome to make a Memorial donation in Elsie’s name to Parkinson Canada, or to the charity of your choice.
