Daniela (Bascelli) Schaeffer, beloved wife, mother, daughter, aunt and friend passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Saturday, November 19, 2022.
Daniela was predeceased by her mother Annamaria (2018), her best friend in the world Vaune Matic (2022), Uncle Peter Dielschneider (2021), Zio Benito Bascelli (2015), Zia Giovanna Giannini (2012) and Zio Antonio Giannini (2009) and other aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Daniela is survived by her soulmate and loving husband Cory; her beautiful daughter Natasha; her father Gino Bascelli and in-laws Gordon and Diane Schaeffer; sisters-in-law Nancy (Raymund) Logan, Trisha (Kelly) Walter and all her very special nieces and nephews who she loved dearly.
Daniela was born in Chieti, Abruzzo, Italy on May 11, 1965, to Gino and Annamaria Bascelli. At the age of 3 years along with her parents they immigrated to Regina, Saskatchewan on September 26, 1968 and so began their journey in this strange land.
On October 3, 1992, Daniela married Cory Schaeffer and on February 17, 1997, they welcomed Natasha Donata Schaeffer, their pride and joy. Daniela was immensely proud of her Italian heritage and was very involved in the Italian community. She danced with Le Campagnole Italian Dancers from a young age and well into her teens. She then took on the role of Youth Ambassador for Mosaic - A Festival of Cultures. She directed the Dance group for a number of years, sat on the Board of Directors for the Italian Club, sat on the Board of Directors for the Regina Multicultural Council and chaired Mosaic for many years.
In August of 2019, Daniela was diagnosed with Stage 4 kidney disease. This was a devastating time for her, however, being the strong person that Daniela is she plowed forward and took on anything that came her way. In June 2020, she began Hemodialysis and in October 2021 she was so excited that she was able to start Hemodialysis at home. It has been a long journey and Daniela fought all the way through with every challenge she had. Rest in peace my love, you do not have to fight anymore.
Funeral Mass will be held for Daniela on Monday, November 28, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. in Holy Child Roman Catholic Church, 2636 - 7th Avenue East, Regina, Saskatchewan. In lieu of flowers, donations in Daniela’s memory may be made to the Kidney Foundation (www.kidney.ca).

I had the privilege of knowing Daniela from a very young age because Gino and my father Frank worked for the same company. Then Daniela become very involved with the Italian Club, as I did with the German Club…..so we had another connection through the multi-cultural community of Regina.
