Ruth Raaen

May 26th, 2022

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ruth Raaen on May 26, 2022 at the age of 82 after another battle with cancer. She will be lovingly remembered and missed dearly by her daughter Maureen (Rocky) Purves and their two sons Cole (Jodi) and their 2 daughters Lucy and Hazel and Derek (Amanda) and their 3 children Bennett, Abigail and Cohen; son Trevor Raaen and his 2 sons Mason and Morgan. Also left to mourn are her granddaughter Jocelyn Whitrow and her 2 sons Tristan and Ashton and grandson Garrett Nimegeers. Ruth was predeceased by her husband Olaf, daughter Jackie Nimegeers, son-in-law Duane Nimegeers and her brother Ronald.

Ruth left the family farm after finishing school at Neidpath, SK and went to work at the Swift Current Hospital, Swift Current, SK in the records department. Deciding to go on an adventure she moved to Winnipeg, MB and worked at the General Hospital meeting her future husband Olaf. Together they moved back to Saskatchewan in 1965 to farm. They farmed in Hallonquist, Outlook and Riceton, SK. Ruth was a very hard worker and one of the best cooks around. Many family, friends and farm hands enjoyed her delicious meals. Ruth also took on part-time work in Regina, SK for many years as a demonstrator serving delicious food samples. She loved talking to people and made many acquaintances throughout her career. Ruth and Olaf retired to Balgonie, SK in 2005. Ruth loved her retirement and made many wonderful friends at Sherwood Forest and Heritage Court in Balgonie.

Ruth will be missed by many and the world is a little dimmer now without her spark.

A Graveside Service will be held at a later date.

Messages:

We were very sorry to hear of Ruth's passing. Our condolences to the families. I've known Ruth and Olaf since they started dealing with us at Costco Pharmacy. These two made my day when they came in always with big smiles and a story to tell. In my 25 years at Costco I would have to say they were definitely my favorite people. They will be missed. Again our deepest condolences. Lucy Carteri and all the staff at Costco Pharmacy.

I am so very sorry to hear of Ruth’s passing! I had the pleasure of working with her conducting various in store demonstrations so many years ago. Ruth always had a smile on her face and a “twinkle”in her eye! She had a vibrant personality that truly shone when conducting her demos at Victoria Square Safeway. She was a hard worker who took pride in her job and always managed to bring a lot of fun to the workplace! She was loved by all! My sincere condolences to the entire family!
