Ruth Dennis

June 10th, 2022

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ruth Dennis on June 10, 2022 at the age of 95. Ruth was born on July 27, 1926 at Mair, SK and was the only child to Robert (Bob) and Eva Mielitz. She grew up in the Pickwell School District and helped her parents on the farm until she married William Edward (Ted) Dennis on December 20, 1945 in Carlyle, SK. Ted and Ruth lived and worked on his family farm northwest of Parkman. Their marriage was blessed with two children – Neil Wilfrid born January 30, 1949 and Gwendolyn Ruth born November 7, 1951.

In July 1982, Ted and Ruth moved to Wawota due to Ted's failing health. Ted passed away of cancer on September 10, 1982. Ruth remained in Wawota until 2017 when she moved to the Sunrise Villa Care Home in Maryfield, SK. In 2022, she moved to the Regional Nursing Home in Estevan, SK to be closer to her daughter and family. She was so appreciative of the care she received in these homes, as well as any care she received in hospitals.

Ruth and Ted worked hard on the farm as well as on the fair show circuit with sheep, cattle, and horses. Ruth was always kept busy with household chores, gardening, helping in the field, trucking grain, and killing snakes with the hoe! Raising Neil and Gwen kept her busy with trips for hockey, ball, volleyball, 4-H, music lessons, and school activities.

After Ted's passing, Ruth drew strength from her family and many friends and forged on to build a new life. She travelled with friends and made many wonderful memories. Ruth always liked to go places and never gave up an opportunity if asked to go somewhere – even if it was just for a drive to the country.

Grass didn't grow under her feet – she enjoyed going with friends and family for meals, tea, shopping and was always up for playing cards (if they were “Wawota” rules). She was always willing to help run errands on the farm or drive friends to out-of-town appointments. She was a great cook and baker (she had quite the sweet tooth) and was always making gourmet meals. Her homemade chocolate cake was a favourite of Neil and Gwen’s, and they always had a piece in their school lunches. She loved taking in any events that her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were involved in. She was even down on the floor playing with her great-grandkids in her late 80's.

Ruth was a warm, caring, thoughtful, and loving person. She looked out for others and was always willing to lend a hand. She appreciated the little things in life and saw the best in every situation. Her quick wit and great sense of humour made every conversation enjoyable. Ruth will always be in our thoughts and close to our hearts.

Ruth was predeceased by her husband Ted (1982) and son Neil (2018), as well as her parents Bob (1975) and Eva (1976) Mielitz, in-laws Lillie (1994) and Wilfrid Dennis (1953), and sister-in-law Marg Dixon (1995).

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter Gwen (Remi) Donais; daughter-in-law Barbara Dennis; grandchildren Terina (Neil) Bird and their children Liam and Owen, Brad (Lynsay) Dennis, Tenille (Brad) Wilhelm and their children Keagan, Kaylin, Merek and Ryker, Boyd (Lisa) Dennis and their children Caden, Chase, Vann and Barrett, Tracey (Jeff) Ward and their children Jaxson and Logan, Neila Dennis; sister-in-law Jean Bogner and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made to Stars Ambulance or Maryfield Sunrise Villa Care Home, Maryfield, SK. A Celebration of Ruth’s Life will be held at a later date.
