Mary Tkach

September 16th, 2021

Mary Tkach passed away at the age of 70 on September 16, 2021 after a courageous battle with cancer. Over the last 30 years Mary fought the insidious muscular sclerosis disease which she dealt with admirably as a nuisance and was able to overcome it by keeping mobile almost to the end.

Mary is a Regina girl having attended Douglas Park Elementary School. After graduating from Central Collegiate, Mary attended Nursing School at Regina General Hospital becoming a practicing Registered Nurse. She went on to receive her Bachelor of Arts Degree at the University of Saskatchewan followed by her Masters of Adult Education Degree at the University of British Columbia. Throughout her career Mary worked in several Saskatchewan Government departments including Department of Health, Executive Council, Indigenous and Northern Affairs. In her spare time Mary enjoyed creating traditional artwork. She was an accomplished pianist and enjoyed many hours playing for others.

Mary leaves her sister Olga Natalie Tkach and brother-in-law David Hick. She faithfully looked after the family home for many years following the passing of her parents Nicholas and Irene Tkach.

Many thanks to the staff at Grace Hospice Special Care Home who treated Mary with respect and loving care. Donations can be made to Regina Wascana Grace Hospice or to Mary’s favourite charity the Regina Humane Society.

Graveside Service will be held on Friday, September 24, 2021 at 1:30 p.m. in Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery, 815 Assiniboine Avenue East, Regina, SK (please meet inside the cemetery gates at 1:15 p.m.). Messages:

So sorry to hear of Mary's health issues and her passing. I worked with Mary at SIAST. She was a valuable co-worker.

So sorry to hear of Mary’s passing. I worked with her for a number of years while she was a nursing instructor. Condolences to her family and friends.

My condolences to the family in the passing of Mary. I had the honor of working together with Mary for several years in the provincial government. Mary was a kind, witty, smart and caring person. A true professional and a class act in every respect. Mary will be missed by many and her memory will live on forever.

Dear Mary, May you dance with the angels, knowing your life was honorable and full of love, kindness, and family. We hope you are playing piano and enjoying art, pain free with those you have reunited with. You will be so very missed by your sister, your family and all your dear friends. Rest In Peace. Love to your sister, and family while you adjust to this heartbreaking loss in your lives. Hugs - Viv, Dave and Sharon

I was one of Mary's care workers at Wascana Rehab. Mary became a very dear patient and friend to me in the short time she was with us. She had a strength in her that I admired so much, a wealth of wisdom a sarcastic humor which broke me up so many times. We shared some great moments of talking, tears and laughter. This woman was a woman of integrity and strength. I was able to visit her in the Pasqua hospital and then Grace hospice. Our last visit was very powerful . Natalie i never met you but we spoke on the telephone once. All i can say is Mary had a great love for you and our last conversation was about her concern for your well-being. It was a privilege to know Mary and I was blessed to call her my friend. Rest in peace my dear friend I know God is sheltering you in His amazing arms.

So sad to hear that Mary is no longer with us and i will not be able to attend the service on Friday. Know that we are there in spirit. I will miss her wit, smile and sage advice. May she rest in peace now and smile down on us from heaven. You have an angel now to look after you all. hugs...rmo

To Natalie and Dave, we were disappointed to hear of Mary's passing. But we know the Lord took her by the hand and led her to a better place. Mary was such a caring person and we enjoyed the times we had together, although they were short and Far too long in between. God please let Mary rest in peace.
